Gauge cluster help

i just installed a oz gauge cluster in my es and i feel like the speedo needle is off. after driving so many years u kinda get an idea about around what speed you're at and i can easily tell that the speedo shows a higher speed than what i'm actually at. i don't know how to check how much it is off by either. anyone know how i can fix this problem?

When I got a ticket my lawyer told me to go to a shop that does speedometer calibration and is recognized by the court. That's in VA but maybe you can find out who does speedometer calibration for your area. It cost me $85.00.

yes i'll either try to use someone's gps or just have a buddy drive along lol. i just wanna know what the difference is so i can see it in my mind while driving even if i don't completely take the cluster apart and try to mess with it cus it looks good sitting where it is lol

It has nothing to do with the tires.

Yeah, drive by a radar speed sign or even have a buddy with you, like you said before.

We'll get this figured out.

seem to be quoting Amby a lot lately.

The cluster will be accurate, I was wrong about the 7% off thing. I thought the mileage was read in a wheel RPM manner by the cluster (ie. wheels are spinning 1000 times a minute, the wheels are X big thus the speed is Y) but I think the ECU manages the speed and then just transmits the reading to the cluster.

Besides, his is off because I took the needle off and thought I put it back on correctly. Nothing to do with the trim difference of the car.

Yes, a tire's size plays a part in it! The taller the tire, the more diameter...a full rotation takes "longer" thus throwing off your speed.

Yeah, so I have 17's with a 40 sidewall and I'm (I think) 1.5% off.
