Help! AC turns on and off by itself

hi the summer is hitting in hard and its hot *** hell and my AC is tripping. The problem is...when i turn the AC on it works for about 3 mins then it turns off and makes this noise that sounds like when you roll your tongue. Then the compressor turns back on for a few sec and turns off again and this cycle continues. The pressure on the low side is at full and the AC blows cold for the first 3 mins before the problem starts. Its like it wants to start but something is cutting it off everytime.
I hope its not the compressor thats the problem but i think its something to do with the sensors but dont know which ones. Can anyone help out please. thanks!
