Warrenty/trans issue

my car drives fine most of the time, but when it gets cold, its hard to shift and sometimes is just stuck in nuetral(sorry for the misspelling)and locks out of any gear.when it does,it wont shift out for about 10 secs.i took it to a mechanic i can trust, and for him it worked fine, but it only started a few day ago,and not when he had it.i only have a ingen intake on it and its still under warrenty, should i switch back to the stock intake when i take it to mitsu tommorrow?it cant hurt but i only have about a hour and a half between when i get off work to when its gotta be at the shop is it worth the time or will they honor the warrenty?it only has 31k on it.since its intermitent its a internal problem...

I'm a dealership tech and here's what I can tell you from my experience working at import shops, including Mitsubishi formerly. Your intake will not void your warranty on the transmission, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise because it's a lie. A short throw shifter or something like that CERTAINLY will. HOWEVER, if the intake looks like a hack job install, they'll be more likely to assume you've just abused the car and that it shouldn't be their problem. Also, if you've never done any business with the dealer in the past, they'll be more likely to ignore you. You need to be persistent, and you DEFINITELY need to be willing to leave your car with them overnight so they can try to drive it cold. If they acknowledge a problem, they will begin by replacing the transmission fluid (which btw you should have already replaced by now if you have more than 30k miles). Because it's a maintenance item which should have been done you'll probably be charged for that if it fixes it. If that doesn't fix it, they'll decide whether to replace the entire gearbox, which is what you should push for, or simply attempt replacing the synchros or other internal parts which may be at fault.

Good luck!
