coolant change

My car is a Lancer 2008, in the service booklet is says to change the coolant after 40k or 2 years, but my car is only 9 months old but it already had 40k on it. Do i have to change the coolant or wait for 2 years?

I flush my coolant every year for all my vehicles.

Repeated use will break down the coolant. I would change since you are at the limit.

It's 40k OR 2 years.
You're at the 40k portion of it, so get it changed. It's like 15-20 bucks.

just dont use PEAK there was a test done on VWvortex (VW forums buddy has an R32) using several different coolants to see how they worked over time. I forgot the specifics of the test and the coolants used (VW engines are real particular and use certain types/brands of fluids that we dont need) so the only useful info i got from the test was that PEAK was the worst and PRESTONE wasnt that bad.

I top off my stuff with prestone.

by the way my brother is driving my 08 es with 62k miles got it back in april of 2007 still has original coolant, just been topped off couple of times...need to get it changed but my dad is kinda last minute on car maintenance

If your car has the green coolant then its rated for your 96k km service, or 60k mile service.

you should be fine and meets mitsubishi's spec.

Yeah I was just going to say where he got this "40K" change coolant....

Probably from the dealer no doubt.

I am going to look at switching mine to an extended life coolant when I get to the 96 000km mark...only halfway there...

Hi,
I am the technical manager for Prestone coolants. I wouldnt wait to change your coolant. When they say 2yrs/40k miles, they mean whatever comes first. Many people with long life coolant make the mistake of leaving coolant in way past the 5 yr interval because they do not have 100k miles yet. I would recommend to drain, flush with water and refill with Prestone long life coolant. That will extend your change interval to 5yrs/100k miles. If you have further coolant questions, I can answer on this site or at Jay.Buckley@Honeywell.com

Where do you get it done for $5-$10? I've spent probably $70 on coolant since October, average is $10 a gallon.
