Remove the wheel nuts and reattach the wheels. When I broke 2 wheel studs I had an awful noise and horrible control, but the weight of the car on the broken studs made it seem like they were tight...until I jacked the car and took them off. If anyone's used air tools on your lugs there's a good possibility of this being the problem.

I stand by the alignment or wheel balancing thing though.

Mine shakes under braking, but the strange thing is it only shakes when decelerating from 65 and higher speeds. Anything below that and I don't feel a thing. Above and it shakes the hell out of the steering wheel.

I know some one had talked about warped rotors before but for 2 different speeds?

WADADLIG, thats definately rotors. You won't really notice them at lower speeds unless they're really bad.

A common cause for rotor failure is over tightening your lug nuts. I personally use a breaker bar because I'd rather kill a set of rotors than have a wheel fall off at 100+ mph.

HEHEHE

I agree with you there fkrzo

Only the tire people and car service guys tighten my lugs. I would hope they know how to do it properly.

Some places actually use torque wrenches. I just tighten the **** out of them!

An alignment could ause vibration by having the wrong toe (the tires are pointed in slightly different directions, and so fighting each other), but I believe this would only cause a slight vibration. Wheel balancing and warped or worn rotors would be a much more likely culprit.

As for lug nuts, overtightening them is not much better than having them not tight enough. Get a torque wrench for $20-50, it will save you a lot in the long run. And don't always trust tire shops. They often use torque wrenches and sometimes leave it at 70, sometimes they have it on high power and could do real damage to the rotors and studs.

Our Lancers recommend 75-80 ft/lb of torque on any alloy rims.

I have a similar problem but my car isn't shaking. The other day I changed out tires, and they ended up being 195 55 R15 in the front, and 195 60 R15 in the rear. Even though the tires are smaller in the front (I plan to fix it ASAP), I am not sure if it would cause my problem. It feels like my steering wheel pulls to the left or to the right, or to the left mostly, and sometimes it actually takes force to move the steering wheel back. Also sometimes when I brake, the steering wheel will turn to the left. This started happening after I put these tires on, could anything I have done caused this?

maybe i havent been in the shop long enough but in my 3 years as an alignment tech ive never had anyone thats experianced vibration from toe angles being out and ive had them come in 3 to 4 degrees out from people changing there own tie rod ends. no wi have had people with camber wore tires so bad it ****s there tires up and they go to get them rotated or so and the patterns are diferent and complety give awful vibration!

That's 3 more years of experience than I have in alignments, so we'll go with your opinion on this one. So just bad tires or worn rotors would cause this? Anything else?

i had this problem and alignment fixed it. i am wondering if his clutch could be jacked up. my car had a real bad clutch chatter that would shake the car real hard. my disc wasn't worn but the springs were loose in the middle of the disc which is what caused it. RRM's clutch kit is great.

update on my issue:

I found that the tire pressure was lower than it should have been, however, that alone did not fix the car. I rotated the tires, got all tires to correct tire pressure and the issue went away.

Me is happy
