Question A/C recharge after accident

I have a 03' Lancer ES, the car was in an accident and it broke the suction line on the A/C. That has been repaired and I put new PAG 46 oil in the compressor and I put a vacuum on the system, that went well but when I started the car and tried to put 134A back in the system it will not take it and the compressor will not come on. I was told that you can put a jumper wire at the relay to get the compressor to come on or another option is to heat a can of freon w/hot tap water and put 1 can in the system thru the high side. Can anyone tell me what else I might try or what I need to check. Thanks for any help!!
