crank and cam sensors

I have an 02 lancer es. The car wont start, ive got fuel and spark to all cylinders and it sound like it will almost turn over. The cel is trowing codes for the Cam sensor AND the crank sensor. I think its strange that both would go bad at the same time . I was thinking it may be a fuse? I dont have the owners manual. Or it could be i sensor throwing off the other. I dont want to just trow parts at it. Any help would be appreciated.

2002 lancer ES 104,000 miles

Did you change any parts lately? My car did the same thing after installing cams and it was because my ex cam positioning sensor was 45* off. Check to see if both sensors have power and are sending a signal back.

i havent changed anything out. It happened after a big snow storm here in the chicago area. I had snow in my engine area ive since brought the car into the garage to let it all melt off.
How do i check for powere to/ from the sensors? A volt meter on the contacts i assume?

Water/Debris will sometimes get into the timing cover and get the crank sensor wet/dirty. Make sure you have given it enough time to dry, or you can take the cover off to visually inspect it.

Yes you will need a volt meter and something to pierce the wire ( very small like a pin) to test for the power being sent back. I don't know the voltages you're supposed to be looking for lol sorry.

do you think that if one sensor went bad either cam or crank that it would trow out codes for both? My main concern is why they both went bad at the same time?

They don't go bad at the same time. They work off one another for emissions. When I did my cams I continually got 2 codes , cam and crank , rarely did I get these alone. Although mine is currently throwing the intake by itself lol. Im just too damn lazy to fix it.

Does your car ever backfire when trying to start?

And try unplugging your exhaust CAS and try to start it. And then pull the battery for 15 min and try with the sensors plugged in.

lol Cam Angle Sensor sorry, Or Cam Positioning Sensor.

Do you know how to check your cam angle trigger? its inside of your CAS housing , it might have actually fallen off. The exhaust sensor will usually make it backfire

well... i tried starting without the cam sensor and it sounds the same. i then tried with the cam sensor but without the crank sensor and, no back fire. so i assume now its the cam sensor thats bad. i pulled off the cam sensor support and everything looks in place. hopefully i can find a cheap cam sensor and see if that works.

so i got my new cam sensor and installed it. Almost good news. the car started but died right away. The only way i can get the car running is if someone shoots starter fluid into my intake while i turn it over...then it dies when they stop spraying. i pulled the fuel line off the fuel rail and its definetly squirting gas. Some one said it may be a timing issue? any help is appreciated.
