Abnormal Clicking

So I've had my 08 CVT GTS for 2 years so let me start by saying I'm well aware of the normal clicking noises our engines make. Some people argue it's the injectors, others say the lifters, etc, whatever it is, I swear my suddenly got a lot louder/worse so I'm assuming this isn't the typical ticking noise. I was driving like a jackass through some small back streets to pick up my friend at a parking garage but once I got in there I heard this horrible rattling noise. It wasn't constant, it would last about 5 seconds, then disappear. I might even say it happened every time I made a turn in the garage, but also once or twice on the straight aways. I mean it was the kind of horrible rattling I get when my sub is bumping on 6, except my radio was off. I did happen to be bumping music super loud on the way there so I figured I rattled my license plate halfway off or maybe blew my sub lol. However, on my way home I went to a drive through and noticed that while idling my normal clicking noises had gotten way louder. It behaves like the standard clicking noise, as in it's rythmic and it kicks on and off at idle every 20 sec or so, but I swear it's louder. Like if I was outside and heard my car roll up I'd be like "wtf is wrong with that car?" When I got home I popped the hood and it definitely sounds like it's coming from the engine.

I had my rotors resurfaced and changed my front breaks yesterday, so along with the rattling while turning, I thought maybe I didn't put things back together quite right, but up until tonight it drove perfect since the brake job. So I'm not sure if that's it, especially since the clicking seems to be coming from the engine.

I'm also past due for a transmission fluid change. I bought my 08 in 09 with 400miles. I havn't had my fluid changed because I'm only at 40K miles but I recently found out it's supposed to be changed at least every 2 years. So my car was hardly driven the first year, but technically I'm on my 3rd year without a fluid change. So I was thinking maybe I pushed it a little to hard for being behind on maintenance and messed something up?

Anyways I'm going to take it out driving again in a minute to see how things are and I'll be taking it to the dealer, I just wanted to see if anyone knew what the problem might be. Maybe rule out the brake job, CVT, or whatever else, etc. Thanks guys.

pull the valve cover and do a clearance check on the valves.

After toying around with my car some more I discovered I could turn the clicking noise on and off by turning the air conditioning on and off lol. That and my air conditioning started breaking down on me, not staying cold, hissing noises, etc. So I brought it in to the dealership, which was extremely annoying because I was told to bring it in at 8am to get fastest service, did so, only to call them 8 hours later asking for an update. All they could tell me was "we're still looking into it, we'll give you a call when we figure it out". I call back 4 hours later to find out they're closed and they just happen to be keeping my car overnight with no sort of warning that I should probably find alternative transportation to work tomorrow lol. I know it's rocket science and all, but how hard is it to at least give a heads up on something like that?

Anyways finally got a call the next morning and apparently my compressor is self-destructing from the inside and that's why there are some awful noises coming from my car. Fixing it under warranty and should get it back tomorrow afternoon

The "we are still looking at it" means they haven't got to it.
