Question Known radio issue, but how to approach it to the dealer?

Hey everyone,

I have an 09 ES Sport, and its got around 88k miles on it,

to my luck the CD player will no longer play CDs or anything, if anything it'll play some music on the right side before it "forgets" that it has a CD.

Thats correct: it seems to "forget" that the CD player exists.. so it just leaves my CD in there, when the car gets hot from the hot weather or nowadays with the heat on, it'll just eject the CD, and then the CD ejector just runs spontaneously whether the radio is on, or off, or anything.

Question is, the dealership is wanting to charge me over $1200 for a new unit, but its a known issue to them..

Any NJ dealers that could actually help me through this that anyone would reccomend?

Thanks in advance!

Nick

I don't know about NJ, but if you have to spend any kind of money, I would just go to an aftermarket unit. You can pick up a nice deck for a quarter of what it seems they want for a stock one...

I was considering it, but if I do, I've heard a ton of issues concerning the dash kit that are roaming on the net..

which dash kit is best, and is there a decent wire harness kit that isn't $100 for just the cables (best buy was not a good source to start with.)

So your audio is out of warranty presuming. There is nothing you can do even is it a known issue. If they have a recall for it then yes they have to replace it by law at no cost, but just because they have a service bulletin or its a known issue then it has to be warranty for free. Sometimes dealers offer a discount if its a know issue but that would have to be approved by mitsu. See if they can talk to the regional warranty rep. and hopefully he can help you out.

Thanks CamShaft, I have discussed it with them, one of the technicians pulled me aside from the main department and just told me I have better luck installing an aftermarket unit because of the cost, and Mitsu will overlook the issue with the high mileage i have.

All said and done, I realized I could copy my CDs onto the computer and just add them to my iphone, the Aux still works, but considering I have twin subwoofers in the back, ill have to consider going for an aftermarket headunit.

spend half the amount of money and get a better stereo system. There are a lot of good systems out there.

I had issues with my stereo in the early days of my 2008. Had it replaced under warranty. This year I am getting ride of it and getting an aftermarket setup.

Go to crutchfield .com for the adapters and a nice selection (IMHO).

Sorry to resurrect old thread (blame google), but I just started having the same problem with my 2009 Ralliart. Now stupid me it may not have worked when I bought it off a used car dealership as I did not test it. I know I'm facepalming myself right now so hard. same problem with my 2009 really are. Now stupid me in may not work when I bought it up used car dealership as I did not tested. I know I'm a spa me myself right But just like you okie I thought what the hell I just everything to my phone to talk for But just like you OP I thought what the hell I just everything through my phone via aux port anyways.

But just like though he asked what is the best dash kit out there anyways for when the AUX port fails and I have to go aftermarket?

American International or the Mitsu/OEM NAV dash install kit are 'best' for fitment.

Stock NAV install units appear in EBay from time to time...

The PAC-SWI will retain your steering wheel controls.
The Metra install wiring adapter is good.

So... price and include these in the total budget and you will see that you can get a real nice aftermarket headunit for FAR less than the $1,200 at the dealership.

Note:
The Mitsu CD player issue is very common - so be very suspect of just buying a replacement Mitsu unit off EBay or a junkyard. It must have been tested/known 'good' before considering buying one.
