Noises, are these normal?

Hello,

2011 GTS Manual (9 months of ownership, bought new)

I am experiencing the following noises:

-When car is first going I hear a loud clunk/squeak sound from both my front and rear suspension when going over a bump.
-Brake pedal makes a wierd noise like you are pulling the vacuum cord across the corner of a room...it almost sounds robotic.
-Enging make a fair amount of ticking noise that is audible from outside the vehicle. RPMs seem stable when warm and I dont experience a loss of power.
-Manual transmission is whiney in general (i think this is normal)

Anyone else experiencing these? I guess I want to know if they are issues, minor things that could be fixed, or real problem i need to have looked at. Nearest dealer is 115 miles away. These seem to correspond (or be coincidental) with colder weather. I love my car and baby it.

ps: anyone have issues with snow jamming up easily in the front wheel wells due to the air vents?

I have a 2010 GTS Manual as well, and I hear all of these noises as well. And here's what I think is the cause of them, though they are all normal noises that come with the car. Correct me if Im wrong, though.

The clunk/squeak is probably because of the cold weather, but you could always look more closely at them, just incase.
The brake pedal goes through some sort of compression when pressing on it, so that's what you hear.
The ticking, ive heard is the injectors, and is perfectly normal.
And I guess our tranny is a little whiney, but I don't think it's the worst out there.
Also, I get a fair amount of snow collection in my wheel wells. If you really don't like that, you could go for some rally armor, or mud guards of the like.

Hopefully this helps answer your questions, And if i'm wrong about anything... well then I guess we both have a problem. haha

I was told I believe from an Mitsu tech that the ticking is actually the fuel pump. Either way it's normal so no worries there. Other than that I can't really help I don't personally have those sounds. At least that I can hear over the stereo

Thank you for bringing me some peace of mind. I guess the only thing i need to be concerned about is my cd player skipping after playing music loud for long periods of time...but im not really worried about that.

That's an awful lot of noises to be considered "normal".

Manual transmissions are whiny especially in reverse because of the gear cut face. It is normal.

Now that it has warmed up to 40ish degrees (which is completely out of the ordinary this time of year in Wisconsin) the noises have ceased with an exception of the brake noise (though it has diminished) and the slightly whiney transmission.

Veronica - Thanks for the explanation of the reverse gear. It sounds the same as my old CRX I drove back in the day so it never occured to me that level of noise in reverse was out of the ordinary.

Hilux- I think it is less than it sounds. Most people wouldn't hear half the noises I do. I am **** about noises as I don't trust cars since my last one was nothing but trouble. I used to drive a G35x and treated it like gold. In return its suspension broke, its emission system (vap canister and check valve) broke, and every airbag needed to be replaced (it was never in an accident). It was a $42,000 car, ran on premium, was meticulously maintained, and needed $10,000 in repairs before it turned 5 years old. Compaired to the G35x, the lancer is a noisy car. The lack of sound proofing on the car and the fact that in the G35x most interior parts are leather on wood or metal attributed to that. I like the lancer 100x more. Just a much different car to get used to (I also like 35 mpg vs 19 since I commute 60 miles/day)

I just had for the first time a weird sound come from somewhere near my front drivers side tire. While I was on the highway. Hard to explain the sound. Sort of a clicking type sound

There is a pretty long list of things this could be. If it continues, I'd have it checked out. It could be something with the tire or brakes. On the more serious side, it could be the wheel bearing. Wheel bearings usually make more of a squeal / grind than a tick. It could be the hood weatherstripping even.
