what do you mean by breather? could you post a link to one, or a picture? be a little more descriptive. i think if you had an intake and Tb you should be good to go with the breathing system on your car as far as the intake side goes and shouldn't be looking for anythign else (besides turbo)

do you mean one of these? im talking about the little baby filter on the right side of the valve cover.

You don't actually need a breather its to filter outgoing air from the cylinder head which contains various particles that should not be released into the atmosphere.

If anything...adding a breather filter will keep your throttle body cleaner. I guess having a cleaner throttle body allows air to flow more freely but it's probably so little that it doesn't even matter.

breather filter not a good idea. can someone help me out. when i put the breather filter in and step the gas in to hold the rpm at like 2500 it keeps going dropping randomly like my engine is backfiring. I closed the hole up in the intake tubing. When i put the stock tubing back in i had no problem with the rpm's dropping. help plz..

breather filter shouldn't be used on normal applications. if you are running a turbo, then there will be excess grease/oil spit out which then a filter should be used. but under normal circumstances, don't waste the money.

well the breather will only take the gasses away, no grease or oil.
I put mine in yesterday only because I don't want it on my ebay CAI.
So I throw out the silicon hose and the silicon thing where you have
to connect it to, and I stick a breather to the engine camshaft cover.
so it works fine and my RPM does not go down when I hold RPM.

I've seen breathers on some Lancers that have short ram intakes and nothing else, but does anyone know where to get a good breather from? Everyone always says check ebay, but is there anywhere besides ebay? I just ordered my Injen SRI and I was thinking about getting a breather. I plan on getting a turbo and intercooler as well.

It's ventilation from the head which often contains blowby. Blowby is unburned oil that gets past the oil and compression rings and into the combustion chamber. So yes, it does have oil and grease in it, and it does begin to gunk up in the intake, throttle body and intake manifold over time.

The filter goes on the front right of the valve cover where there's a vacuum hose. When you pull off the hose there will be a nipple on the intake side as well. Plug this because it will suck in stray air and may cause a pressure drop. Theoretically you can put another breathere here as well to filter small portions of air that it will intake, but you're probably better off plugging it. I say that mainly because I don't remember where the nipple is in relation to the MAF, and unmetered air is not a good thing.
