Oil Disapearing

i drive a 02 lancer oz rally and i have 8500 miles on it i have a cai and exauste and some other mods i just changes my oil less that 2000 miles ago and my car some how used almost 3 quarts aleady i dont have any leaks whitch i can find so do u think i am burning oil if so how can you fix that and how much woud it cost

lancerman360 Jun 28, 2007 07:42 PM

3 quarts in 200 miles is a bad leak. If its not a leak...you have a huge smoke trail behind your car while driving. Make sure the oil pan and drain plug are nice and tight. Is there a check engine light on?

Moving_Target Jun 28, 2007 07:54 PM

no i dont have any check engine lights and my car has set for 2 weeks now after i filled oil up there is no leak any where and the only smoke that ever comes out of my exaust is when i gun it and its only for a sec Because of the tune on car runs little rich and its supposed to be 2000 miles on the oil i run 10w 30 royal purpul if that would help any i dont want to tare the engine apart if i dont have to lot of work and money i dont have at the moment

a CAI and an exhaust wouldn't cause smoke to come from the car at all. period. what are your other mods?

for you to go through three quarts in 200 miles you HAVE to be leaking... have another look around.

how much oil do you put in by the way? you should only have four quarts in there, and if you're constantly down to one--that's bad.

i have a lightend flyweel and cam gears i have replaced my cam but its stock and the work was done to mitsu and i have a chip and tune by alamo aut sports

I had similar experience with Royal Purple. That oil seems to somehow evaporate.

And people... stop saying 3 quarts in 200 miles... it's 2000 miles

didn't know we had to #19 things outside of OT. it definitely said 200 last night. :p

as far as synthetic oil goes... mobil 1 > royal purple.

Did anyone else notice the fact that it's an '02 with only 8500 miles on it? Is this on a fresh motor or a reman. motor? or has it sat for long time?

If it had in fact sat a long period of time, that ain't good for the seals! I'd say it'd be leaking from an oil pan seal or a crank seal if that's the case...

I say he should switch back to regular oil like mobile or castrol and see what happens after 2000 miles. If his car acts the same mine did, using castrol will solve the "evaporting oil" issue.

but wtf do I know anyway? I've only been messing around with that car for 5 years

^Castrol FTW! All my cars, whether full-syn (turbo Civic) or dino oil (Lancer), get the Castrol oil treament every 3k...

Althought I did notice better performance when using RoyalPurple and Motul, I still could not justify the bottom line price and went back to castrol.

RoyalPurple sells for 8$/quart around here and it evaporates after a few hard miles. I'd use it again only if I was to attend a track day or a track weekend where the engine will be put under incredible stress.

Motul sells for 10-12$/quart around here and is harder to find than a Lancer doing 12s on the strip. Cheap Castrol > High price + hard to get Motul

Maybe he bought it used. you know I can swap gauge clusters... It might be that the oil is so clean he could barely see where it touches. Use a rag or piece of cloth and put that dipstick in there then compare.

Might be that he only put two quarts that's why when he measured, it was only two quarts. From what I know, gasoline engine will not burn oil but diesel engines will.

my engine was swapped because or and accident in 06 thats why it has 8500 miles on in but its ran good befor this started happening
