3 quarts in 200 miles is a bad leak. If its not a leak...you have a huge smoke trail behind your car while driving. Make sure the oil pan and drain plug are nice and tight. Is there a check engine light on?

a CAI and an exhaust wouldn't cause smoke to come from the car at all. period. what are your other mods?

for you to go through three quarts in 200 miles you HAVE to be leaking... have another look around.

how much oil do you put in by the way? you should only have four quarts in there, and if you're constantly down to one--that's bad.

I had similar experience with Royal Purple. That oil seems to somehow evaporate.

And people... stop saying 3 quarts in 200 miles... it's 2000 miles

and some other mods i just changes my oil less that 2000 miles ago and my car some how used almost 3 quarts

didn't know we had to #19 things outside of OT. it definitely said 200 last night.

as far as synthetic oil goes... mobil 1 > royal purple.

Did anyone else notice the fact that it's an '02 with only 8500 miles on it? Is this on a fresh motor or a reman. motor? or has it sat for long time?

If it had in fact sat a long period of time, that ain't good for the seals! I'd say it'd be leaking from an oil pan seal or a crank seal if that's the case...

I say he should switch back to regular oil like mobile or castrol and see what happens after 2000 miles. If his car acts the same mine did, using castrol will solve the "evaporting oil" issue.

but wtf do I know anyway? I've only been messing around with that car for 5 years

^Castrol FTW! All my cars, whether full-syn (turbo Civic) or dino oil (Lancer), get the Castrol oil treament every 3k...

Althought I did notice better performance when using RoyalPurple and Motul, I still could not justify the bottom line price and went back to castrol.

RoyalPurple sells for 8$/quart around here and it evaporates after a few hard miles. I'd use it again only if I was to attend a track day or a track weekend where the engine will be put under incredible stress.

Motul sells for 10-12$/quart around here and is harder to find than a Lancer doing 12s on the strip. Cheap Castrol > High price + hard to get Motul

Maybe he bought it used. you know I can swap gauge clusters... It might be that the oil is so clean he could barely see where it touches. Use a rag or piece of cloth and put that dipstick in there then compare.

Might be that he only put two quarts that's why when he measured, it was only two quarts. From what I know, gasoline engine will not burn oil but diesel engines will.
