New Jersey's slowest Lancer
Yep, that's me.
Coming home from class tonight I came into my town and heard what sounded like metallic bits knocking around under my hood. I think we all know what that means. No compression. No telling if the valvetrain's been damaged. No telling if the turbo's been damaged. All I know at the moment is that I'm short on miney, time and stock parts. Anyway...I just got home about an hour ago from having my car towed literally 1/2 mile (after having called AAA at 10:00pm). So I'm cleaning out the garage tomorrow, putting her in and up on jack stands, draining fluids and hopefully starting the stripping process as well. If anyone has stock injectors, downpipe or a bullet I'd appreciate any or all of the above. No spare car at the moment and even less money pretty much puts me up ****'s creek. Ain't that grande? Gotta love playing the gineau pig. I'm going to go wallow for a bit, but I figured I'd let everyone know where I'm at right now. Funny...I don't know whether this should be in FI Tech, Troubleshooting, OT or NE Regional. |
aww man sorry to hear about that hobie, hope nothing too serious is jacked. :mitsu:
|
It's a piston. The only question is whether it's the dome or the ring land. Either way I need to do a complete teardown and replace them.
I take that back. The other question is whether or not the valvetrain is damaged as well. |
call crower and talk to them about some new pistons and rods, its expensive, im sure its worth it if thats the way you want to take your car next
sorry to hear about the car Link |
i say strip it, sell your turbo, sell your rmr lip to me, put your car back together, then trade it in for an evo :D.. but seriously, i hope everything's fine and running soon.. sucks not to have a car.. keep us updated and good luck {thumbup}
|
Trading in is not an option. It won't be fine or running anytime soon, but thanks for the kind words. I'll definitely keep you all updated. I may part the turbo kit (most likely at this point), but first I need to make sure the turbine isn't damaged. Then I have to get a lot of stock parts back in the car. Injectors being the most difficult (read: expensive) thing I need (unless someone replaced their injectors in their 4g94 or 4g64 and would be willing to sell them cheap.)
Anyway, I'm gonna cry myself to sleep and tomorrow I'll hopefully have a damage estimate. (Probably very late at night) |
sell that aem man that would pay for the pistons and such.
oh yeah and i am very sorry man. |
sure hope its justa ring, not the dome. bent valves also would really suck .. thats a bit more work. sucky but good luck getting it back together. still a beaut of a header ;)
what were you boosting at during the failure ? |
Man that sucks hobie, hope all will turn out well. You know, this makes me think twice about getting a turbo...This is a T3 that you have right?
|
It wasn't the turbo. If anything it was my fuel map and/or injectors. The map was altered from how I've been driving it, but only by ADDING fuel, not leaning it out. Oddly enough, there was no knock while driving. Just the sound of metal bits.
I'm not selling the AEM yet. I'm not ready to use a MAF again unless I have to. At the moment I've got a lot of thinking to do and a small budget with which to determine my car's future. Yes, IDR, it's a Turbonetics T3 Super 60 (the largest compressor wheel on a non-hybrid T3 so far as I'm aware.) |
hobie - i was really more curious as to what boost you run under normal driving conditions and not trying to say that over boosting was the cause of the failure. I'm trying to learn quickly about non 4x4 vehicles ;)

wait for the Lancer w/ MiVEC engine to be on the roads, find one, and run him off the highway into a pole.
Drive off w/ mud on your liscense plate. Track the car to the junkyard, and buy the engine. Done. |
sorry to hear Hobie i wish you the best of luck.. hopefully it isn't too bad
|
Hobie, i have a stock downpipe i'd be willing to part with, still need it?
EDIT: BTW sorry to hear about that man, that sux.. i know what that must feel like, thats my biggest fear. Something happening that will disable my car because i dont have any other means of getting around, i'd be ****ed, and i cant really afford to pay 30 bux a day on a rental. i feel your pain brotha. |
I've arranged to get one from SmoktOut, Bitnode. Thanks though. I really appreciate the help. :)
I was running an effective approx 5psi, dig. I don't know if you've read any of my other threads, but I've been having issues with boost cutting out at 5+ psi since day one. I've since had the car tuned on a couple occasions, an FMU installed to address fuel pressure, and done a lot of adjustment myself (richening the fuel map to whatever extent possible for the most part.) Above 5psi I hit 17.6:1 AFR. I had a couple lean spots on my fuel map too. For some reason that I have yet to detect my fuel delivery is/was absolutely FUBAR despite having the most built fuel system of anyone I'm aware of on a US Lancer. (See my registry entry for a list of mods.) Anyway I was automapping my fuel map at the time and also PC logging so I'm going to take a chance to look at the data tonight or tomorrow. My priority right now is ordering pistons that I can't afford and getting the teardown process started to find out whether I need valves and springs as well or if they're ok. I'm guessing they'll be damaged from the bits of piston. If I'm super lucky I'll find out that only valves were damaged and nothing went into the turbine. Again, thanks for the kind words. It's gonna be a while before I'm up and running again. Taking the parental limousine to and from work for a bit I guess. :crap: Jack, I won't have a car with which to run him off the road and I don't think a new engine, mounts and possibly tranny will be any cheaper than rebuilding and effectively bulletproofing the 4g94 bottom end. |
