as explained to be by the engineer, it is a voltage regulator. Helps with the ups and downs and power spikes casued by all the parts on the car drawing from one source, the battery. It stores energy to used to level the system. Reducing dips and spikes. That is the best I can explain it without an engineering degree. (jourlalism instead)

shipping to Edmonton? Probably a few days. Depends on who they ship with.
As for EVO specific, I'll check with my rep. I'm not aware of any "specific" kits. Unless you mean the wire lengths are made for EVO. Either way, I'll call. I will also seem them week after next in Las Vegas at SEMA. They have a booth and the D1 Grand Prix winner on display.

They have 2 types the Hot Earth and the generic type. The Hot earth are part # HE1001G which are the ones I was looking at. Ask him if you can get them made for the EVO in multi colors. I think you can only get the HGS in multi colors .
i have a DYI ground kit.. didnt see much of a dif i dont think.. maybe a better idle but never had a bad idle sooo. in my opinion DYI if you really want one it looks good under the hood..but thats about it

Here is the anwer to "values" question. Straight from Sun.
Hot Earth is the same as Hyper Ground System. We are the manufacturers of
Hot Earth in Japan, and the name was changed to Hyper Ground System for the
US market. The EVO specific kit is actually available through Mitsubishi
directly. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide these EVO-specific kits
to anyone except Mitsubishi. For the JDM market, we have a large selection
of Hot Earth kits which are made for specific vehicles. However, because of
the difference in engine layout between many US and JDM cars, not all Hot
Earth systems will fit to the same model US cars (mostly because of design
changes between right hand and left hand drive). We are planning to
introduce limited Hot Earth car specific kits to the US market soon, but the
Hot Earth kit for the EVO may not be included since we are supplying
Mitsubishi directly. This I am not yet 100% sure on though. After SEMA I
should have time to do a fitting test for the JDM EVO Hot Earth to the US
EVO to make sure it fits before we look into importing them for sale in the
US. I will keep you posted.
Nonetheless, the universal kit will offer the same performance as the EVO
specific Hot Earth. The cables are exactly the same contruction. The
difference between Hot Earth and Hyper Ground:
1. HGS is a universal 5 wire kit made to fit virtually any vehicle
2. Hot Earth is car specific, so wires are cut to specific lengths with set
mounting points. Depending on the car, the kits may use 5 or more wires.
3. Hot Earth kits will typically cost more than HGS.
4. Although the Hot Earth kits specify exact mounting locations, the ground
points used for all vehicles are basically the same: intake manifold,
cylinder head, L/R chassis behind the headlights, and the
block/transmission.
Hope this helps. I will be meeting with them at SEMA next week. So if there is any new things I'll pass it along.
