Triumph TR-8

My buddy is a mechanic, and after hours we will chill at the shop and work on whatever needs to be done to either of our cars. They have a triumph Tr-8 with the 5.0 rover V-8. We took it for a ride and this thing is fast!!!! Has anyone ever heard of these or have driven one? I have always heard of them, but since in "number" it is only one up from the TR-7, I thought nothing of it!! It would be great for an Autocross car.

I do not believe it has a 5.0 rover, but a 215ci all aluminum rover v8 which buick used to put in early 60's cars(i forget which one).It was a smaller chassis car.

Paul Newman raced a TR-8 for Joe Huffaker in the mid 70's.Scca class A-production maybe. He cleaned up on everyone. He may have even raced it in the Trans-Am series. I saw him run the car at Road America and Brainerd International Raceway.

Group 44 built the cars and also raced them in I.M.S.A. sanctioned events. Bob Tullius and Terry Visger drove.

Well that is what was marked clearly on the engine, "5.0 Rover", The engine is red and lettering in silver.

Oh I believe you.........Then it is probably a transplanted unit. A later version of the rover motor.

I see! So then the stock TR-8 was not that fast? I am not too familiar with these.
