2006 Pontiac Solstice....thoughts?
2006 Pontiac Solstice....thoughts?
the pic and specs are official from the pontiac website. Honestly looks pretty good to me. Check this out:
- RWD (yay!!!!)
- 5 speed manual (yay again!!!!)
- 170 hp
- Bilstein shocks
- 4 wheel independent suspension
- 18" wheels w/4 wheel disc brakes
- convertible top stows completely in clamshell rear opening (a-la SL55)
- 50/50 weight distribution
- starting price $20k
Could be a winner!!! So far it looks like they're doing everything right. The power could maybe be a bit more but if the car is little and light like an MR2 Spyder then the 170 hp will be plenty. Also, I won't really believe GM can build a car that handles until I see it (and isn't a Vette).....I hope they do right with this one.

I actually really like the looks a lot.......the front is kinda like a Z8. Also remember the other cars in this same genre like the Spyder and the Miata have WAY less than 170hp (the Mazdaspeed version notwithstanding). The interior shots on the website looks good too.

I think it looks fine. It evokes emotion, and has a bit of pizazz to the styling that makes it unique and far from boring. A first for GM without the use of ribbing and plastic.
Wow, I like it.
I can already tell it's one of those styles everyone will hate in the beginning, and then start to love it the more they see it in person and on the road.
with 170hp, 50/50 weight distro, and RWD.... this car should be a LOT of fun to throw around a road course. If only it weren't a pontiac. I'd still definitely consider it for $20k though. The specs are definitely matched for driving enthusiasts.

neither of those cars are girly....they're both very well tuned sports cars and I'd own either of them in a heartbeat if I could fit in them well. I would have taken either of those cars over my SRT given the choice because of superior handling, RWD, and the light weight. When I go to SCCA track events the Miata is by far the most prevalent car there.
