2005 Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG

6.0 liters of V12 Twin Turbocharged @ 11 psi per cylinder bank; industrial sized air-to-water intercooler; high lift/duration camshafts.

The production model is detuned to 738 lb/ft of torque at 3000 rpm and 604 hp at 5500 rpm.

Pre-production models belted out 885 lb/ft of torque and had to be detuned for transmission longevity.

Paddle-shift 5-speed automatic with AMG Speed Shift technology good for a
0-60 Ferrari shredding time of 3.8 seconds (in a 4500 pound luxury missile).
The quarter mile blurs by in 11.8@120.9 mph. Show-quality carbon fiber engine cover included. Breaks the bank to the tune of $180,000.

Happy motoring.

PS- wonder what would happen if you slipped in an HKS EVC inside that bad cat.

Ehhh I'd settle for no EVO's and one of those, along with an SL65 AMG for when I feel "sporty."

It's amazing how this car is only 180,000 and the slr mercades is like 600,000 and this car isn't that much faster than the slr.

It's all in the image. You can make a 5.0 mustang as fast as an Enzo, but it's still a 5.0 Mustang. In this case it's less extreme but the same concept in a way, except they're both stock, not modded.

Personally I'd pay less and take the one with less of an image but I guess if you've got cash to burn, why not?

Then again you have to take into consideration the extreme R&D on the SLR, that probably wasn't put into the CLK.

And the fact that it would've required 16" wide wheels.

Seriously. And who makes the transmission? Caterpillar? 900lb-ft belongs in a damn tractor truck, not a car. That's just insane.

IMO, the SL65 is way better than the SLR. That 600 grand POS is ugly and flashy doors and wheels dont cover up the fact that it's not a real supercar. It can go 207 mph and had a ton of hp but if you read reviews of it, magazines don't really like the car as a whole because of the cheap interior and especially NO MANUAL TRANNY!! The SL65 is so much more practical and luxurious with its glass roof/retractable hardtop and torque out the wahoo.

I'd take that EVO FQ-400 over the SLR anyday.

No matter what you do to an SL65, it will never have this....

Gross horsepower is one thing, engineering is another...

Just get an SL600 and do $6000 worth of Renntech mods and it will spank a SL65 for tens of thousands of dollars less.

One of these came up to my work yesturday, I did not even notice it was a SL65 and not a SL55 until I saw the V12 with the Bi-Turbo over it. I work at a Home Depot in Plano nights and weekends and we get an SL55 at least 3-4 times a week up there. This was the first SL65 though, it did not even sound like anything special when at idel, but I damn sure knew what it was.

a friend of mine has an sl65 and I followed him home from a racing event at a local track where we got to drive all of the 05 amgs on the road course, and that sl65 is freaking nasty.

My friends dad just picked up a silver cl65amg friday. I can't wait to get a ride in that thing. It's gonna be nasty. His mom has an 03 or 04 s600 and his dad also has a 2000 or 2001 sl600. It must be nice to have that kinda money. the base price on the cl65amg is 178K if I'm not mistaken.
