Evo racing a Yamaha R1

I just thought it would be fun to post what happened last week. My buddy has a relatively well built Evo pushing just shy of 500 WHP. I decided we should bring my bike out and do some pulls against each other. I was amazed... Ive never honestly had a tough race against a car ever on my bike. His car was nuts. We started with him in 3rd going around 3500 RPMS and me in 4th. To make it fair I waited for him to spool his turbo (Easy to tell on an externally gated car) before I gunned it. He was faster. We tried again with me in third. We were both about the same until around 125 MPH.... I was amazed. We didn't do anymore pulls for a few reasons but that was amazing to me... a car over 3 thousand pounds pulling against a bike. I would have obviously been faster assuming I started in the lowest possible gear for that speed (2nd or maybe top of 1st) but its still nuts. I guess there is no real point to this post but for all you guys around 500 whp or even mid 400's dont be shy to pull on a bike or launch against him... if you launch him he probably doesnt know how to take off with a bike and you will probably win. If you see any 600cc (R6 or ZX-6r) dont think he will win just because its a bike... you would be surprised. It is getting real cold but if I go back over there soon I will bring a video camera along and film it. You guys would enjoy. By the way... he now got himself bigger injectors (His maxxed out.. only 660s), a sheetmetal intake and is getting his timing adjusted. He is hoping to get over 500. The tracks are closed up here now but next season he is goin for the 10's. His last trap was 125 mph and only ran an 11.9 (Terrible tires).

so he ran a flat 12 sec 1/4 mile?

these bikes are top end...especially 1000cc bikes, i would think your bike would be capable of 10s stock, i know that the gsxr1000s can run 10s , are you good on your bike??

What year R1? The R1 truly has come a long ways from the 04-05 model from the previous generation.

from a stop or slow speed i'd give it to a bike, especially if they knew how to ride. most bikes dont know how to launch from a dead stop but from there until about 100 miles an hour i think itd b hard to catch a bike. however at higher speeds, it would be easier because of the bikes drag coefficient. bikes rock cant wait till i get a new one

I did race with a Yamaha R6 with my EVO (intake, exh, dp, avc-r at 25psi, exedy twin plate, afc-II, O2 housing, Cat-on). We both didn't launch the car/bike to start. We were right next to each other (the bike rider is right next to my driver seat) up to 4th gear, then I lifted my throttle.

I was amazed the EVO could accelerate as quick as a bike.

It is a 2002 Yamaha R1... much less power than the 04-05 but it is still an ungodly fast machine in my books. Yes.. I could have beaten him if I tried (I started in third and he was in third... If we really tried to race I would have been in second gear). It is still crazy how well his car kept up. His car should be running very low 11's. Soon high 10's hopefully. My bike is stock capable of running low to mid 10's but it is alot harder to launch a bike than a car. Most people dont know how to launch a bike. Most bikes I see at the track are running low 12's to mid 11's.

cool story, very interesting also... bikes just have amazing power to weight ratios and to think that any car can keep up is pretty incredible

I'd take the bike any day. Bikes like the Busa, R1, and Gixxer 1000 actually run in the high 9's in the quarter mile in the magazine tests and those are bone stock. They'll also do nearly 190mph top speed. Even my bike with only around 75hp should destroy 99.9% of roadworth cars at any cost because in stock form it still does the 1/4 mile in about 12 seconds flat and there aren't tons of street cars pulling times like that.

I'd take any sportbike of 600cc and up against any car on any day.....because chances are unless you're running up against supercars or highly modified street cars (both of which are pretty rare in most places) you'll usually leave the car for dead.

Bike are actually MUCH FASTER than people actually give them credit for. One crack of the throttle on a 1000cc sportbike will make any car you've ever been in seem extremely retardedly unimaginably painfully slow.

Hint ... aerodynamic drag gets really nasty on a bike at speeds above about 60mph. From a launch you'd probably kill him. Funny tho. that on my little SV650 (because of its "lower-end" torque, I can lanuch and pull on most liter bikes for about a bike length, before they distroy me.

jcnel.

That would be nice! I love Supra vs. bike videos, so an EVO vs. bike video would rock!

How long have you been running 25 psi on that set-up for?
