Best used car under $10,000??

I'm looking for some ideas on some rides to check out. I'm selling my 1990 240sx hatch and a couple other cars, and $10,000 (or less, preferably) is my price range. I see polls like this on here a lot, except usually for cars $25k+, so time for a change. I've driven a lot of cars lately, but I'd just like to hear some comments, suggestions, horror stories, etc.

Basically I'm getting married soon and it's time to think less about toys and something more functional.

yeah, i like the 240 a lot, but i know that i will **** more and more money into it if i keep it. getting a newer 240 will just make me want to do the same, and i really need to save cash.

about the sr20 - i see this as bandwagon talk. i'm not calling you out or anything, but in my research, you could have a BUILT ka24 boosting to over 400whp for the cost of a completed sr20 swap. and if you talk to people in japan, you'll know that people beat the hell out of those engines when it's coming time to put it to rest. my friend ran with the same oil at 7500-8000rpm for the last 10,000mi of his car (they have to either swap out or buy a new car at about 50,000mi). parts availablility is great, but the ka-t with a 2.4l displacement is awesome torque. i don't know who decided that the sr20 is the drifter's choice... maybe japan since they have them stock.

i'm really leaning toward an impreza of some sort. finding one in good enough condition for a good price is tough.. just gotta keep looking i guess.

any other ideas?

the specs are in my profile. yes, it's a manual, but if you're looking for a deal, i wouldn't pay my asking price of $3000. i tell you guys this up front because i look out for my fellow evom brothers and sisters... i'll only get the $3000 asking price because there are enough super street kids that want to get on the drift bandwagon these days that rich mommy and daddy with pay anything. my friend bought his 86 for $100 5 years ago, dropped about $1000 into the suspension, and just sold it for $4200. there are enough ss kids to go around =)

in other news...
it seems like it's time to find a good price on a 2.5! funny that everyone pointed me in the direction of the car i already own, or the one i was already looking at. thanks for the help, anyway since i guess i can feel better with the decision now.

I completely agree. I have a buddy who turbocharged his 95 240 with a homebrew, junkyard turbo kit he put together. I'm talking ghetto....the turbo is a 60 trim T3 off of a single turbo 300ZX and he uses a stock DSM SMIC. The car runs 9 lbs on the stock injectors and he uses a rising rate and an AFC for tuning. Currently the car is TOTALLY maxed out on the stock injectors but it is FAST. He trapped 108 mph on half a talk of 93 octane (tuning is good, 12.0 AFR across teh board)!
