Cool, I think an awd SRT-4 would be a great idea and might really take off for dodge. I don't think it would put the car in Evo/STi territory and I don't think it needs to. It would be a direct competitor with the regular WRX and I think would bring in even more sales because of the greater performance advantage from FWD to AWD. I think that if the SRT-4 was awd, I would consider getting it, my friend has one and it is a blast to ride in. With all the wheels spinnin, it would be such a better car.

BTW, I also think that Dodge should make the car RWD. I would buy that thing in a heartbeat if it was. It would be like a mini IS300, cept no luxury and way more power.

There are several reasons the Evo is a little more expensive, the car looks similar to the Lancer, but the US lancer is built here, the Evo is assembled 100% in japan.
umm my lancer says final assembly point, kurosaka, japan, or some city like that. i dont remember the exact name of the city.

I really don't care if they make 6X6 on the Neon SRT-4, it will never be like the Evo. Evo is just to balanced. The craftsmanship on the car is unlimited. The Evo is just a so much better car then the Srt-4 that it's not even funny. When you look under the hood of a Neon it looks like a yard sale. Everything around every where. Nothing is done with quality. Second of all, if they are so good then why dosen't the public buy the car. You can easily buy a Srt-4 for 20 K out the door. I'll tell you why....Once again American Crap!!!!! Look at the 350Z.... Are they selling? Hahaha Hell no!!!! ohhh wait theres more. I worked at the dealer here in Chicago and let me tell you... I thought that the GTO will save us and make us alll money and crap and when it came out they Sticker the car @ 35K for three months not even one car sold of our lot. Today they are selling the car GTO 2004 for 25 K and no money down and still!!!! no one wants to buy it. Ohh man that is funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So if Srt-4 comes out with 5,000 HP and sold the car for $3 still no one will spend the money.

So drop it!!!! No Srt-4's in this Forum please...... Thank you
there are probably three times as many srt-4s in my area than there are evo's. not to say that the srt is better, cuz i dont think it is. im just saying that the car sells. not to mention that chrysler doesnt have to sell an srt to make money, they are making plenty, i would think, with the 300c and the srt-10 truck and viper.

Anyway, Not sure how true the AWD rumors are, **HOWEVER** remember that the new generation Lancer and Neon will share chassis platforms. And in the past DSM ventures for both Mitsubishi and Dodge got the AWD platforms though you didn't hear too much about these little toys (I never knew you could get a plymouth laser with a TSI package)

Its not hard to believe that the Neon would get the same drivetrain as the Lancer, and it also wouldn't surprise me that an SRT-4 flagship version would also get an AWD drivetrain. I also don't think you would pay 30k. There are several reasons the Evo is a little more expensive, the car looks similar to the Lancer, but the US lancer is built here, the Evo is assembled 100% in japan. If they begin sourcing drivetrain components locally, and mass produce the "Stiffened" chassis and other hardware on the same assembly lines as the Lancer/Neon, you'll see the prices drop. I honestly don't think this is a great thing for the exclusivity of the Evo, but it is a good thing for the Neon.

The Evo as you know it will change significantly, Not sure what the Evo for the US market will become.. But in the past cars like ours don't usually see high production runs, and the really cool cars go away after a few years.

A little food for though..

And to the person who said "Who the hell would pay for a 30k neon" One could say the same for a 30k lancer... Those who get it, get it.. Those who don't.. Well, they drive hondas..
Agreed .... but to add to that sometime when things get mass produced here as opposed to Japan, quality tolerances fall and components start to fail. Case in example, is the 1G Eclipse with the Japan built USDM 4G63 was a solid engine and subsequently the US built 2G and 3G USDM 4G63 which had crank walk issues . I'm not saying that may happen in the future .... As far as AWD Neon goes, I doubt that will happen as I am sure Dodge doesn't want to deal with warranty issues due to AWD tranny failiure.

I can see you're totally speaking from perseption as opposed to facts ....
I didn't know you could look under the hood and tell the quality of the internals of an engine
In case you did catch it, this part of the forum is dedicated to "other cars" ...

Ok.. let me follow this ignorant logic..

American=crap
Us born here=American
us born here=crap..

Way to go, sell us short..

This has to be one of the most ignorant comments I have read in a long while..

If you think quality between american, german, japanese, etc.. cars varies that much you are dreaming in lala land.. Every manufacturer has a car that has problems, just as every manufacturer has flagship cars that set the bar..

When you buy an economy car, you get an economy car.. those cars are considered disposable.. You get what you pay for regardless of if its american, japanese, or came straight from Uranus..

My friend was at turbotrix getting his car tuned a couple of weeks ago and they told him the same thing. Dodge is releasing an all wheel drive srt-4. The TT guys are pretty reliable guys from what I understand and I wouldnt expect them to BS anybody, especially customers.

Beat me to saying it. That guy is totally lost in his own private universe. Reality has no place there apparently.

I think for the most part, as much as we'd LIKE to see something like that, its currently hopeful speculation based on a reasonable historical precident.. but like another poster said, it may not happen simply due to the current relationship.. But money is money, and shared platforms and reluctant relationships are commonplace in manufacturing..

er you are totally WRONG. US LANCERS are built in Japan with 99% of the parts coming from there...if u look at any price sheets on the new car...you'll see:

car manufactured: 99% Japan

=X neons are made in america, lancers are made in JAPAN.

damn, this thread blew up over night... haha. anyways, i'd welcome an AWD srt-4. i know dodge has a heck of a better warranty than mitsu and if they maintain that mopar-warranty agreement, i might find myself in one of those AWD srt-4's if my evo ever broke down (and being a mitsu, i do have my doubts about this car sometimes).

as far as that comment about how bad american cars and srt-4's are... ever looked inside the engine bay? ever looked inside the engine? that sucker is running our turbo (or something that closely resembles it) and that engine is solid. although most srt-4 owners tend to give me dirty looks, i always give them

Ok, I was told otherwise (By a mitsubishi dealership) But this is actually an irrelevant point in this particular discussion..

I think my particular confusion was because of the discussions I've had, I was told the neon and lancer will be built on the same assembly line in the same assembly plant.. I think my brain farted out the wrong info..
