They seem to have a problem keeping their crank pulleys on. It looks like several owner's have experienced multiple "catastrophic failures." In some cases, GM is replacing the entire engine and in others, they are buying back the whole car.
And people say my Mitsubishi is a POS

Ive driven mine like im in and f1 race since day 3. ( i broke it in on the way to indy)
7,000 rpm shifts all day long. 2 years and 35,000 miles later Im still banging.
This goes to show what a good buy the mitsu is. LOL :0

Lets not justify our purchase by focusing on other great cars isolated incidents. Shiaat happens and remember the Subie guys have done the same things to us Evo owners with our Syncros, clutches, and transfer case issues. Do you want be like the Sti guys that found out that the Evo is a better overall car with more potential but have to find reasons to justify their waste of money on an iinferior car? OUT!

Cool! Mitsu designs balance shafts used in Porsche's, turbo's used in the SUBARU Forester 2.5XT (http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=4), and now they supply Corvette's with their belts
It most likely is an isolated event, but right or wrong, I still can't shake that "never buy a domestic new or redesigned car in it's first year of production" attitude

I'm not saying mitsubishi quality is better than anyone else, but there does seem to be alot of Mitsu bashing going on, especially on our own board.
I would like to point out that if your crank pully falls off, your engine leaks oil, and you loose power steering, electricity, and A/C. When this suddenly happens and your driving on the highway, it can be quite a challenge to wrestle your car, which wont accelerate with no alternator and wont steer easy with out power steering, off to the side of the road. Syncro's may go bad, you may burn your clutch up, but niether pose much of a saftey hazard. Something to keep in mind before you start Mitsu bashing. Nothing is perfect.

All 1st year cars have problems until the manufacturer figures out all the kinks (which sometimes never happens). What impresses me is the way GM seems to be handling it. Replacing the engine or buying back the whole car is much better than hearing the Service Manager say, "well you must have raced it so it's not covered, you're ****ed." At least give them some credit. No car is perfect.
