Help me select a car for my mom (seriously, check this out)

Alright, heres the deal. My mom is getting a new car, and she asked me what I would recommend. She wants something with 4wd or AWD (SUV's included, no trucks). She currently drives a 99 chevy cavalier, and she wants something bigger than the cavalier, but not as big as a suburban. She has a rebate (GM credit card I suppose) on Chevy, Pontiac, Olds, Cadillac or GMC. I dont know much about domestics, so are there any good 4wd SUVS or AWD sedans made by these companies? Shes lookin to spend in the range of $25,000 to $28,000.

Chevy Trailblazer

Does she need to tow anything, or she just wants more passenger or cargo space?

Get her a Forester ($24K) or Outback LL Bean ($27).
Unless she wants a truck (with truck like handling and ride).

you can get the pontiac vibe with awd. you just have to have the smaller engine in it too.. otherwise i vote for trailblazer too.

She doesnt need to tow, just wants more space, and 4wd/awd for bad weather/snow.

If she can shell out more money go for the Acura MDX (perhaps demo or slightly used). The consumer report rip apart the trail blazer.

consumer reports didn't like the lancer either. i don't trust much of what they say. remember it is still a single tester who may or may not be biased. look for reviews on lots of different sites and mags.
