WRX gets a 2.5L.
WRX gets a 2.5L.
Information leaked over on NASIOC. Dealership and bulletin suggests WRX will recieve 2.5T engine to match that of the Subaru linup. Horsepower expected to be around 250.

The only Engine differences are IC, Turbo, Uppipe, and intake manifold. They all share the same EXACT longblock including the small side feed injectors that have to run at over 95% IDC's on 350-360BHP tuned STi's.
This is great news! Evo owners time to fear WRX's.

First off please see what I drive...
Go for the used evo. The WRX is not even close to the complete package of the evo and you will be getting a much better deal buying one used.
I love subaru's for sure. I went from 03 wrx to 04 sti to 05 sti and wife has an 04 XT and we have loved everyone. The wrx, even with a 2.5, will not come close to the total package that is the evo. And something that alot of ppl on this forum may not know about is the problems with the EJ257 motor... RING LANDS. The motor can run 350-380 BHP for years but that is it. This thread shows an occurence that is all too common in the modified STi's.

I thought as much. It was a good chance for me to still stay inside the Subaru community, but I had already planned to move onto the dark side as soon as insurance and money allowed. Thanks for the unbiased clear response.
I wonder if they will fix all the problems the 2.5L engines have had in the past. I also wonder if this means that Subaru will pull out of WRC. I also also wonder if the 2.5L WRX will be already factory tuned so tight that you can't mod it as well as you could the old 2.0L. I also also also wonder how many times I can use also in a sentence.
A reputable dealer told us that power may increase to just 230hp, I don't believe the tranny will change.
WRC cars do not require much homologation any more, this has stopped being in practice for years now. This is how Ford, Citroen, Peugot are still running in the game. Plus, they will sell the 2.0L motors to the rest of the world where they get big taxes for bigger displacement.
As far as tuning goes, I'm sure we'll be in the same boat as the new 2.5T Legacy's and STi's waiting for aftermarket manufacturers to catch up to the demand for 2.5T parts.
The STI should settle in around 330ish hp also, coming in fall of 05, as an 06, there might be a run of 500 Legacy GT Spec B's. Most likely 2.5T with twin scroll turbo, running around 270-285hp.
