92 Eclipse GSX

I did a search but couldn't find anything on this... I'm looking at purchasing a 92 Eclipse GSX with 150,000 miles. I am wondering if anybody has any ideas on what kind of problems I might run into with an AWD with this many miles. Like what are some of the problems that start to arise after this many miles. He says runs excellent in the ad.

man you need to do some research on these type of cars. you'll find everything you'll need to kno. but in the mean time...its either the car lasts for a week or it lasts for a long time. these cars are capable of producing tons of power. the only problem is most people that get them don't really kno what they are doing. so they jus boost them up amd blow **** apart. these cars have problems mainly with oil leaks.

if he says it runs excellent he is probably lieing. they only way it will run great with that many miles is if he did and engine rebuild. you need to find out all the info about this car from him. if he kept the car stock then it should be ok. but if he boosted it up i'd be careful about buying it. the drivetrain's on these cars are really good. the tranny can take a beating befor problems occur.

Any particular reason you want a '92 GSX Specifically? (I'm assuming that's what someone's offered or you've found?) Any 1g DSM should be exactly the same aside from slight differences in styling. Talon TSi and AWD Lasers are all the same. May help to vary your options. If that one turns out to be too much or not the best buy, try looking elsewhere. They're slightly uncommon, but definitely not too difficult to find.

Word. I was in the market for a second gen DSM when I opted for the Lancer. Seemed like a better deal as far as insurance went, but, ask me...

Do a compression test and leakdown test. Thats the ONLY way to see how good of condition a used car is in. Id say with that many miles, 130-140 across the board would be fair.
