Heater Core Change

Guys (and gals)
Has anyone in here ever replaced a heater core on an Eclipse? Or for that matter, any other car? My car smells like coolant inside a little with the heat on so I believe the heater core is bad. I want to change it and wanted to know how big of a PITA it was. If anyone has any idea, thanks in advance.

I've done it in another car. Depending on the design, it usually involves removing or opening up the heater plenum (the plastic vent system that air blows through). If you have to remove the plenum, that may involve having to remove most/all of the dash. Grab a shop manual for your car and see what it tells you.

Do you think I am correct in guessing its my heater core? I can smell coolant a little, more so with the heat on and much much less so with the ac on or the temperature set to cool with the A/C off. I do not want to get the dash apart if its not neccessary. My coolant level hasnt really dropped in a while, but it did drop when it was colder out. Would I lose more coolant through the heater core in the cold weather when I have the heat on full blast? Thanks guys.

If the coolant is leaking out of ur heater core, its gotta so somewhere. Do you notice the carpet under the dash being wet? Try turning ur car on and let the heater run full blast for a lil, look for water/coolant leaking on the carpet under the dash (and/or under the seats if the eclipse has vents under the seats). Also, look under the car, there is a drain in the venting system for condensation from the A/C.
