Ok new info on the Mazdaspeed 6, the MSRP is set at $27,995. Grand Touring is going to be the main trim level which is about 80% of the production volume. Of the total amount of cars produced, 25% will have the optional $2000 Navigation system. Also from the total amount of cars produced, 33% will have the $700 moonroof option. The car uses a advanced keyless entry and start system. As the owner approaches the car, the car unlocks itself with a simple touch of a button on the door handle. Once the driver is seated, the engine can be started with the simple twist of a knob.

The DISI engine compression ratio is 9.5:1 in case that's not been released before.

The HP figures should be around 274 but it has not been completely set. On all the different dealership publications such as the dealer magazines "Fuel" it has been said to have 274hp.

It's going to be slightly less expensive and have more 'niceties' (I hate to call cruise control a luxury feature), and a better company backing it. It's an interesting trade off for those who want some of what the Evo offers but need a bit less extreme performance.

Once again, the Mazdaspeed6 is not in the same class as our Evo or the STi, its more along the lines of, the new Legacy 2.5GT or the JDM B4 version, the 3 series, Is350s and stuff like that... Its designed with comfort and elegance much higher on the list than just pure performance.
ford built the mazda6, they even make them in a ford plant

Some Mazda6s are made in Ford factories, not all, but some. Ford does have stakes in Mazda. The main difference is quality control and as well as design. Mazda's quality control is quite different than that of Ford. Just look at the fitting parts of the different cars. The owner of our dealership sits on the board at Mazda. He talks about the quality control of the cars versus Ford all day long because he also owns Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealerships. Drive a Ford Mondeo or Taurus or Fusion or whatever their new midsized sedan is and compare it to the 6 after you have driven all the different cars. I promise you, you'd think the 6 is the best between them. Not all Mazda6s are built in Ford plants. A simple way of finding out is looking at the vin #s. If the first of the vins starts with a "J" the car is clearly built in Japan. The Mazdaspeed6 is definitely one of those vehicles that are going to be built in Japan.

I saw something interesting on my way home from work today on the highway. (I live like 3 miles from where they build the mazda's) It looked like a mazda 3, but with squintier headlights and smaller blacked out factory tailights. It didn't have any badging on it, but I swear it looked just like a mazda 3, but more sporty. It was white, and had a mazda sticker in the window. (no licence plate, temp plate, or dealer plate--but had a mazda employee driving it) Any of you guys know what I'm talking about?

hah! nm, I did in fact see the mazdaspeed 6. I'll have to go by the mazda plant to see if I can get some pix of one. They usually line them up where you can see em thru the fence.
This is EXACTLY what I saw.

^--ah hah! blacked out taillights.

^--squintier headlights.

Mazdaspeed6 looks pretty good, but I wish it wasn't front wheel drive most of the time. 50/50 or rearbias would be great.

You might have seen a 06 Mazda6. The car now has blacked out headlights and similar rims to the Mazdaspeed6. I don't believe you saw a Mazdaspeed6 mainly because they are still in Japan or on the way over from the pacific. Mazda aways make their higher performance cars in Hiroshima.

Why are you going from an Evo to a Mazda6?

i don't know if i will yet...

but, (and this is my personal opinion only!!!) every problem i've had with the car since day two mitsu hasn't addressed there's been a crazy squeek/low hum coming from my brakes (when i changed the front pads and rotors the inside driver's side pad was down to the metal and the rest of the pads were only 50% gone...), i don't really like the feel of the clutch as opposed to other all wheel drive cars...

don't get me wrong my '03 evo is the best/funnest car i've owned to date, i'm just thinking that mazdaspeed 6 might be a similar car from a better company, a more sports car oriented company...

anyways all this is conditional to the test drive and if they pull the same B.S. that you can't test drive it... i'll just keep my evo...
