Test drove an S2K.....
i was invited by the dealer to test drive an s2000 today..and as much as i have respect for honda's reliabilty and comfort if i may say....i was very dissappointed with the s2000....below 6500rpms...the car is so slow....however...above that..it kinda pulls but nothing compared to the evo
the seats where uncomfortable at all..i mean my MR is so much more comfortable and less noisy although with a down pipe and a catback.
on the other hand, for some reason....the car wont launch from a stop...i tried reving to 5500rpms and let the clutch free, it waited until the rpm dropped to about 2000 and then took off....slowly...frankly speaking..i expected more from a honda tagged at that price..(~$33100)
moreover..i have to admit..the car is an eye catcher..it looks so nice especially in that silverstone color of it...it shines so nicely in the sun..for the way it looks on the outside..it deserves a better interior i think...oh and the (Engine Start) botton is kewl..
well..this is a useless topic but just wanted to share my experience with you..
on a further note...i prefer the honda type R (or what you call ITR in the states) over the S2k...i should be test driving that next saturday..we'll see how it goes.
adios

That should have been a lower revving boosted car from the factory. It sucks that Honda (especially that car) is known for not having any torque. I know they build good cars, but GIVE THEM SOME POWER for goodness sake. 9000rpm isn't crap if you have no midrange torque.
I'd rather have an Evo, STi, R32, etc, etc, etc over an S2K.

And why is this in Evo General. Should be other cars.

well..to be honest...my moms lexus RX330 handles so much better..seriously...it understeers alot although thats not much expected from a compact rearwheel drive...but what i enjoyed was...if you enter a turn slowly (~40km/h) and throw it into first gear then rev it to 8000rpms ofcourse with the clutch it...then let go of the clutch..it drifts smoothly before it fixes itself...
by the way i am not trying to make it look crap just coz iam an evo owner no..not at all...but from what i've heard about the car /reputation and for that price...i really had my expectations set so much higher...
i mean same thing happened when i test drove the 350z...those cars are so similar..they only look fast but when it comes to performance..they are hopeless..
unlike the evo...which is designed to fit a family, and performs like a supercar..lol..
well..i believe different cars are designed for different tastes..
Evooooo all the way!

I'd test drive one.....if i could fit in the cockpit. My friend is aiming for one and he has an 03 MX-5 Miata. Haha he sed when he tested an AP1 that he had a slightly hard time getting into the seat.
I've driven his MX-5 before and that was a task for me to get in and out (i'm 5'11" and around 250lb) so by my reasoning I'd never fit in an S2. And especially won't fit in an Elise. T.T....i'm so limited. lol I do fit an Evo tho. ;p

I owned a 2001 S2000 and it was an awesome car!! It was fast, lauched like a damn rocket, and revved to 9k rpm. The seats were not uncomfortable at all. I drove mine from Louisiana to Seattle and back with not one single problem. The car was bullet proof. I beat the hell out of that car the whole time I had it. Sure it isn't as fast as the evo, but extremely fun to drive. Oh and it's CONVERTIBLE!!! Put the top down and roll out. Very fun car. Oh and if you think an rx330 handles better than an s2000 then you need to go to driving school. That is the best rear wheel drive handling car under 30,000 dollars. It has so much more steering feel than the Evo. Of course the Evo handles better, but its all wheel drive. In fact you don't deserve to drive an evo either. Get yourself a station wagon and enjoy!!

Evooooo all the way! When you have the feel of AWD stuck in your head, then it's hard to appreciate the quality ride of a RWD car. You need to seperate the two and compare RWD to RWD. Just my .02

i am in love with my evo to an extent that i am looking into buying my friends 6.5 TME..however there is nothing Tommi left in it..it has a full built engine with an HKS turbo upgrade and full coilovers...and its been autoxed for atleast 3 full seasons...its going for a good price though..about $18k...i dunno if i can afford a second car
but we'll see..
here it is...

Second, in just about any dealer test drive, I seriously doubt that they will let you drive the car hard enough to induce understeer or oversteer for that matter, not to mention a drift.
Third,

Don't take any offense. Your evaluation is "your evaluation" of your test drive experience. It's just that your whole S2K test drive evaluation makes me have serious doubts about whether you know how to drive a RWD properly.

The S2k does not know the meaning of the word understeer. The newer ones are supposed to have a more tame rear end, but my 03 went EXACTLY where you pointed when you turned the wheel no matter the speed. The car isn't fast, mine ran a 14.5@97.5mph w/ a testpipe as the only mod and a 2.3 60', but they are DAMN fun to drive, esp. on an autox course and holy hell did I beat the ever living crap out of that car and never had ONE problem with it. Unforunately, my Evo does not instill that amount of confidence. I am always worried something will break.
Umm, the S2000 is not by any means slow nor does it handle poorly. It is also not turbocharged nor AWD. That may be why you felt the way you did about the car... Being that it's so much different from the evo.

Plus, showing that you have a seasoned autoXer friend means what to me? I am not sure I should feel that you drive as competently as your friend now? or I should just think that you have a friend who can drive competently? You see I am a little confused following your logics here, my friend.
