Question What car now???

So my buddy offered me what I paid for my evo ($22k) and I get to keep the mods off of it. He is also giving me his IMMACULATE CONDITION 1990 model plymouth laser turbo. My initial thought was drive it thru the winter and save up and trade it plus cash in on a new IX mr. Well I got to looking at all the cars in that price range and saw many great options. I would like your opinions on the cars listed below, but dont worry I wouldnt even think about an STi .

MK IV supra turbo
first or second gen. dodge viper
evo ix mr
lotus elise
used Z06

I know all these cars have star power... but My dream car since I was 5 has been the viper... myabe they are rolling pieces of ****, but i dunno... thats why I'm asking you!

It goes without saying that the Evo is unsurpassed in performance, as it is a versatile car. The IX would be sweet, but the viper is your dream car. That's a tough choice. If it were me, I would be looking at the IX or the Supra, since you don't see any of those. Good luck and I expect to see pics of whatever you go with.

lol nooo.... I still owe 16k on my evo so i wouldnt have the whole 22k to put down on the viper... i would only have around 10k once i save up sum more... and a 1992-1997 vipers are around 35-40k. I'm also thinking about keeping the dsm as my daily driver... id hate to drive a 450hp rwd v-10 every single day. haha. But you are right about the evo's versatility... I mean what other car can turn a 13 second quarter mile stock, run laps keeping up with porsches all while carrying 3 friends and ur dry cleaning... a tough choice indeed. NE thoughts on the zo6 or lotus

z06 is an awesome vehicle.. its one of the only american sports cars I like. I've driven a few, and I was very impressed. That would be my option number 2 next to the IX if I was in your shoes..

The lotus is another one of those exotic/dream type cars. It isn't to practical for daily driving everywhere. They are freakin expensive to fix if you get a slight fender bender. There is a thread on it in these forums somewhere.. Its got very good potential for a true race car or canyon carving car. Its light, small, quick, and handles like no other.

I wouldn't get the Viper as a year round car, but if it's your dream car...tool around in the Laser till you can make it happen. Not a big Viper fan, but they're undeniably powerful, and I understand the appeal FWIW.

Definetly not the Viper if you have any sort of winter weather.. my neighbor across town has 2 of them, and they won't even start on cold days, or damp days, just like any other chrysler. You wouldn't expect it out of a car that is supposed to be a muscle/sports/exotic car, but it happens. Even when I worked at a dealership, we got in the used cars from dodge, and we had so many problems with them, even if they were less than a year old. I wouldn't trust those cars.

The guy can barely afford a used EVO and people are suggesting a $40,000 car? Are people going into hock to buy these?

No...HE suggested the 40k car. We are just saying that if it's his dream car and it's reasonably attainable that he can make it happen.

M5 is great. How about a Jaguar XK8 Coupe or XKR Coupe! Looks like an Aston Martin.

If your 19? I would advise college, job, house then sports car. If you must have a car and it had to be chosen from the ones you listed....the ZO6 would be my choice.

They have a 03' Black/Black close to home for 37K with 2700 miles on it. A 6.5K H/C packaged tuned and installed from LGmotorsports will put you in the 460rwhp range.

Some I forged rims and that would be a bad looking, handling, braking, and 125mph trapping, pump gas street car.

I'm in the process of buying my own home right now... I know ima be strapped for cash the first few months after I get my place cuz ima need alot of stuff, thats why I was gonna trade... stick the left over cash in the bank and drive the dsm around for 6-8 months and try to save up and put a big chunk down on something I really want... See... down here in NC the cost of living is waaaay cheaper than most places... and I have a good job. And who said I could barely afford a used evo? wtf. as long as I can keep my bills to 1,400 a month or under I'll be fine... my house is only gonna be 550 and my g/f will be paying all the other crap (power, water, cable). so there is 750 a month right there for a car. I know I can get an 05 mr for 550 a month and down here in NC my evo insurance is only $80 a month for full coverage.

I take it you haven't budgeted for maintanance. The base car payment is only part of the cost of owning a car. Service, Insurance, Gas, and unknowns are the other. None of the cars you listed are cheap to own. I know, I've owned many of them. I suggest you talk with people who have actually owned those cars to get a true estimate of what they cost. Tires alone for the Viper and Vette will run 300 a piece...expect to get 10k miles out of them tops. Oil changes LOL...expect $80 for the Vette and about $110 for the Viper...they like synthetic. Replacement parts ROFLMAO...are you prepared to take out a second mortgage?

I hate to **** on your parade but it doesn't seem like you have thought this whole thing through.
