Motor in the Eclipse 2004?

I was checking the Lancer 2003 and the Eclipse 2003. The guy at the dealer told me to wait if I'm not in a hurry for the new 2.7L engine the Eclipse will get this fall. Is that true?

Cause that would make a whole world of difference for me. I was thinking to buy the Eclipse. I must say I love the look like hell. But I don't want to buy a sport car that will get his *** kicked by a Lancer Ralliart in a couple of months. So I would wait a couple of months to get the Eclipse with the 2.7L. I don't want to pay 30k canadian $ for a V6. I want power, but I want to eat too Insurance cost twice for me with a V6...

If it's not true, than I think I will wait and get a nice Lancer Ralliart Edition. Ralliart rocks! And 160hp in a little box like the Lancer must be pretty quick!

So, if anyone know if it's true for the 2.7L in the Eclipse, please let me know! Thx a lot

Oh! Nearly forgot...

What kind of power can we expect from that 2.7L engine?
I know lots of torque, but for HP?

Thx!

The 2004 Eclipse will be just like the 2003. You won't see any chagnes until 2005 - at least 18-months out - when we get an all-new car.

The current RS and GS model have the same engine as the Outlander, so 2.4L and 147HP...

The Lancer ES is faster @ 0-60 than the Eclipse GS and RS... That's why I was asking if the Eclipse would get that new 2.7L engine, the same the Outlander will get. That will be pretty nice for the Eclipse with 4 cylinders, so that way the car would be fast

The engine doesn't have the same rating in all Mitsubishi vehicles it is used in. In fact even in the Eclipse the rating is different for manual and auto tranny versions of the car. Just for ya know.

Again, don't expect any significant changes in the Eclipse for its final (and appreviated) year on the current platform.

Mark, do you know if is shooting for a spring 2004 release, rather than fall, for the new Eclipse?
Thanks.

Not really sure yet. I suspect it will come a bit early but don't know how early.

i have a 2000 RS. i like the car, but it just so low on power. the car may come rated at 147 hp, but it dyno's at 103 whp ( ).
Any the only tested and real power mod comes from Ripp mods. They have supercharged all models of the 3G (I4 & V6). The I4, running 5.5 psi puts down 178 whp, and over 200 crank, for the auto. The 5 sp dynos at 205 whp at 7 psi. The power for the auto can be increased, but they are not sure the tranny can take the power.

The supercharger system they use is a Vortech V5(i am not sure of the trim) centrifugal. Very good adiabatic efficiency, as it provides 13.5 whp for every 1 psi of boost, and only draws 7 whp to run.
Ross, the operator of Ripp mods has a dodge stratus, identical engine and drivetrain to the 3G, and has boosted it up to over 400 crank hp and has over 300 whp.

Many members of club 3g have his V6 supercharger system and are running well into the 260-270 whp at about 7-9 psi. The supercharger can increase hp by 600, added onto the stock hp, that is well into the 750 whp range. and with all the other mods needed to run that boost, it can easily go into the 800-900 whp range.

but realisticly, why in the world would someone want a 900 whp FWD car? And the amt of money needed to get that high is astronomical.

Personally, i am looking at getting another car soon after i get back from my business trip. Too much money needed to get any kind respect among the local tuners, and autox'ers. plus with the new neon turbo, and the upcoming cavalier turbo, it is virtually a waste. i would have chance on any kind of track i would be on.

I am looking for my 99-01 firebird formula NHRA edition. power a-plenty, and already comes with a hurst tranny, so power adds are easy.
