Help with 95 Civic LX

Well I hope this is the right place for this, but here goes....... My sister took her 1995 Civic LX in to a local mechanic to have it checkec because it threw a CEL. The mechanic called back today and said the "emission sensor" is bad and needs to be replaced. He estimated around $400 dollars for the repair. My question is......is the emission sensor the same as an O2 sensor? If so, I have found a new O2 sensor kit online for 50 bucks.....it would be an easy install right? All I would have to do is switch them out and then disconnect the battery for the ECU to reset right? The car drives fine..........so Im wondering if this is most likely the problem. Or could he be referring to something else. Thanks for any and all help....I would much rather do it myself for cheaper rather than paying 400 bucks........

Well, you'd have to get the specific code he pulled otherwise it could be one of several emission related sensors.. However if he estimated $400, It does sound like the O2 sensor, but which one?

Once its replaced, you can use a scantool and reset the ECU, or disconnect the battery for awhile and it should clear the code. I would definitely get someone else to pull that code/codes before you determine for sure its the O2 sensor though.

Thanks for the informative and quick reply.......Ill try and get the code. I'm assuming there is somewhere I could look up what it means online. Most likely there is an upflow (on the exhaust manifold) and downflow (after cat) right? Thanks

Go to autozone. They will pull the code and look it up for you.

Mechanic said it is the MAP sensor. I found one online shipped for just over $200. Anyone know if this is a fairly easy install. Is it just unbolting the old one and installing the new? Thanks for any/all info
