I had one behind me today in the drive-thru at chic fillet. GORGEOUS blonde behind the wheel. First one I've seen on the road. Those rear fenders look REALLY wide up close.
last time mitsubishi seemed to be pulling out of it's slump, it was due to the 0 apr 0 down for 1 year deal.
great sales that year, but it was a false boom.
This one is partly due to the year of free gas promotion. Mitsubishi needs a car that people can afford. The EVO is an impressive machine and all, but your average joe can't afford it. The Eclipse is poorly targeted. Not enough performance or technology to get the young guy market, too expensive for the young girl market. Base Lancer is a dud. Galant is overmatched.
Except for one rally inspired AWD niche market performance vehicle, they have no "must haves" in the lineup. Mitsubishi is still on the way down, sorry to say.

There is quite a few around my town, most of which are driven by older people. By older I mean 30-40. This kind of surprised me because I thought it was marketed towards the younger people. I saw a 20yr old in one, it was kind of funny because he REALLY thought he could beat me....then he got pissed when I chuckled to myself and put on my glasses.
I've only seen 4 or 5 out here. The cars seem to be selling well though, October sales were up over 200% versus October 2004 (See press release http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...01/147195.html )
The Eclipse has certainly moved from the sports car segment (1st and 2nd gen) to the GT segment though (heavy with poor weight distribution and softer ride...)
It is a competent GT though and will handle twisty mountain roads with sufficient confidence, though the weight shift in tight corners or over bumps takes some getting used to.
I say, go test drive before you completely write the car off. Plus, the 4G69 is pretty decent and already offers mods (turbo and such)

I see quite a bit of the new Eclipses around Boston.
They're not as common as the RSX or TC, but I'll usually see at least one 4g Eclipse on the road.
They're not that bad looking, although most of the time the owners are female.
