Opinions on the new Mazdaspeed 6?

Ive always been a Mazda fan, and I like the new Mazdaspeed 6. This looks like the first car that Mazda got right, in a turbo creation.

The Mazdaspeed Protoge was a lil weak, and the Miata was nothing special, even with the turbo.

I think this is the first car besides the STi that will give the Evo some competiton, and thats a good thing, cause it will keep us Evo guys on our toes-

I think it is a gorgeous and fast car. As a Mazda fan, I am sorry to tell you that it is not as fast as the Evo or Sti. It has some serious power but not enough to beat an Evo or Sti. I would however pick it over the other two for looks, handling and being an underdog Mazda of course.

Not really Evo/STi competition. Good alternative to the Legacy GT though.

I think you need to read up a little more on it. On paper it looks good, but it's nowhere near competition for the Evo and STi.

keep in mind, this car is designed to be LUXURIOUS rather than SPORTY, so comparing this with sti/evo would be comparing apples and oranges...this should be compared to legacy *shrug*

Because a mostly fwd car that understeers is always desirable.

I wanna go check one out in person. I'm also a big Mazda fan and I think the Mazda6 looks way better than the Legacy so if performance is similar I'd choose the Mazda all the way....not to mention Mazda is the king of making cars handle.

I've read in an article about this car months ago that it wasn't designed to compete with the EVO and STi, but more or less compete with the WRX, Lancer RA, etc... Still sounds like a nice car.

I'm not a fan of the bulbous hood and it's a heavy car. Otherwise, it would make a beautiful daily driver.

it's actually build to compete with cars like the Subaru Legacy GT and the G35 Sedan AWD. The WRX and Lancer RA aren't really in that category.

Heavy by what standard? It's 190 lbs more than the Legacy GT (which gives up 24 HP and 30 lb-ft of torque).

True, but 3,589 lbs. is also more than a Buick LaCrosse.

i had a mazda 6 2.3i, and it handled great for its size and intended purpose. i was beating modded minis and wrx's around autox with it- and my mods were minimal- wheels/tires, catback exhaust... the mazdaspeed 6 should handle too, but the susp is a bit soft... the 2.3 direct injection turbo might be a little harder to work with also. but the front bumper looks like its ready for a fmic... also whoever said that the mazdaspeed miata wasn't impressive is looking for the wrong things from a miata- those cars aren't about speed- they're about handling. a mildly prepped 10anniv edition miata (1999) will walk all over many faster cars, leave alone a prepped mazdaspeed miata.
