Question Have I gone over the edge?

OK, I've probably done it now.... I gave my son this car about 10 years ago. It finally needed a motor rebuild but unfortunately, right after the rebuild the tranny started leaking a lot of fluid.... I was away and could not help him get it sorted out so I got him a Sentra and this thing got parked under a carport....

Fast forward 10 years, I decided that it was a shame that a car with a rebuilt engine would just sit there and go to seed. Anyway, sight unseen I had it towed to a mechanic and looked at. They claimed it ran OK and the tranny did not leak anymore Well, I think I went over the edge.. It needed a battery... it did need brakes so I had them done..... Anyway, I drove to NC today and got the thing and drove it back to GA... It has an exhaust leak so it sounds and runs crappy. It stops very well though Anyway, it stinks of mouldy upholstery and could use body work and a paint job
Oh yeah, it got 18.5 mpg while the EVO got 27.5 mpg driving from NC to GA....

well since it stops well, drive that **** to the front gate of a junkyard, stop well right outside the door, and go in to get your 200 bones for that thing.

I guess you guys think I went over the edge ... I'm wondering how old you guys are? I sort of like the old cars for sentimental reasons... They take me back to my old days..... I think I might restore that old coupe. It does have a nice sounding 327 V8...

If you are going to restore something from that generation at least restore something that had some value/respect to begin with

My vote -- recycle it

errr.... from the late 70s. Your right I don't think anything respectable was produced after the tighter emissions laws.

There were, however, lots of interesting cars in the 60s and early 70s that would be a better project. I am not up on American Muscle but I could steer you in the direction of something like a 72 Porsche 911 S

All you need is a bumper sticker that says "My other car is an EVO" Then laugh your V8 off when you get in your VIII. You should find a Carbon Fiber spoiler to ad a touch of flare to your sticker. If I had that, I would drive it till the wheels fell off just to aggravate the wife!!

Oh sure, there are lots of more desireable cars to go after, but I don't care... I have this one and I don't have a '72 911 S..... Besides, it's nothing but a pastime.. Just something to do. Nothing to impress ppl with

I don't really care if anybody knows I have an EVO or not when I'm driving my beaters... It's not about that.

Personally, I would gather friends and get some sledgehammers. Take it somewhere so we don't get into trouble and have some destructive fun. After that junk for some cash and save for future mods.
