Those STi experts at it again
Hello everyone, I'm new here to evom and mitsubishi. I just traded my 04' Java black STi for a 06' GG EVO 9 MR. Coming from a STi I can honestly say this guy's points are all screwed up. I traded my STi for many reasons and IMHO the EVO is a much better machine.
This guys says in his statement that the STi has a better AWD system than the EVO - I say BS. My STi aquired a "cracking" sound somewhere in the rear of the car. It would make this sound at lower speeds. For example: lets say I was in traffic trying to creep along at 5mph. If I was rolling at 5mph in first gear and suddenly left my foot off the gas, I would get a "cracking" sound from the rear of the car. It would also do it again when I pressed back on the gas. This sound started low and progessivly got worse. I took my car to 4 different dealers 2 in Hawaii, 1 in Louisiana, and the last here in Washington. All 4 dealers told me the noise was normal. I also searched every STi fourm and found topics on my noise - there was nothing solid on there either. People were posting the same thing the dealers were telling me, it's a normal noise. I finally got sick of nobody being able to diagnose this damn "cracking' sound. After the tech in Washington told me it was a normal sound I went straight to the Mitsu dealership and traded the STi. I could not believe that 4 dealers could not diagnose the noise. They offered a bunch of things it could have been but never anything solid.
All I can say about the handling of the MR is - WOW. I had the STi pink springs, Group N hardened struttops and Cusco front and rear swaybars on my Subaru. I hate to tell this guy but the MR will absolutly destroy my old STi around a SCCA Solo 1, Solo 2, or any autocross course out there. The EVO's handling is as percise as a surgons scaple - bottom line. I don't even want to know what it would cost to get a STi to handle even half of what a stock MR does.
Interior. My STi had this ridiculous rattle coming from under the dash somewhere from the day I bought it. The Subaru interior developed many other "noises" as time went on. I had 2 12's in the trunk and the interior rattles were so bad that I heard more interior noises than bass. I like the MR's interior, it does'nt make a sound. That interior is rock solid and I love the Recaro's which is something my STi did'nt have. All in all, IMHO the EVO has a much nicer interior.
Lastly, his coment on the engine. Not everyone has 8 grand to spend on a Crawford short block. I wanted a car I could safely modify without fear of the stock engine blowing as I reached the 500 hp range. This is the second main factor for getting the EVO - a time tested and reliable powerplant.
I loved my STi and I still have a soft spot for them. It's just that I like the EVo a little better. I think it has more to offer and gives a little better reliability when modding.
