Ok heres my situation:

This isnt about an evo, its a 4g63 none the less. I own an '03 Evo and I am flying down to Miami, FL to purchase a '98 Eclipse GS-T... I already have my plane tickets for this saturday... The seller has been in the process of fixing his timing belt...what happened was the motor cut out when he floored it around 5k and once he got the car home he noticed peices of rubber, so looked into it and found that the tensioner had snapped but the timing belt was still in place and the crank and the cam gears were still in time and had not jumped timing... He seems to think that once he puts on a new timing belt, tensioner, and sensors (apparently one broke??) the car will run, he is going to find out later today if it will run... But I am freaking out b/c I already have my tickets...IF the car doesnt run, what am I going to have to look for (valves...etc...)??? Also is there newhere in Miami that would have what I need on a Saturday so that I can fix it!?!? Thanks guys in advance!! Sorry its not an Evo specifically but he is a member on DSMtuner and I frequent evom, so I didnt want him to know I am flipping out bout it...

 

Yes valves you can bend valves and the car will run, but really crappy. Just drop a 6 bolt 4g63 in it and it will be sweet. But to take care of the issue of getting it home, check the timing and check it again then check it some more, if there is no damage done to it now, the timing being off more than 5 degrees will break something. if you have to pull the head then do it to check for damage. I lost my 98 GST engine to something similar.

The guy selling it said that all the timing was good...he seems soo confident that it will start, I am far less optimistic...especially 2days b/f I am suppose to pick it up! I have to drive the thing 16hrs back home!! Thats why I would like to know if there is newhere in Miami to take this puppy on saturday juss in case it isnt running correctly!...I will look into shops right now, just need to kno if neone has some shops they like more than others??? (also that would be open on saturday)

 

Might want to do a search for south Florida tuners, Evo guys could help you out enough to get you back home I'm sure.

I found several south florida shops, but one of my friends is in Georgia right now, and he said that he can come down and help me work on the car if it is acting up....I guess now all I would need is parts to fix the car... My only concern is getting the car home, and from there I have the resources to fix any problems w/the car and make it a good daily driver and tear apart the evo to work on it this winter...

I also have another quick question, he has a 20g turbo on the car but still has the stock injectors, no tuning, and is running on 9psi, so I figure I would buy a fmic, injectors, and some sort of tuning device (what would be cheap but still get the job done??), ive found several Greddy E-manages for sale, so I may pick up one of those...ne sugguestions?

 

if you had problems, but still wanted the car, you could just show up with a uhaul truck with a rack on the back. probably cost you a couple hundred to rent and drive home and return. then at least it is at your house, and you dont have to worry so much about the long drive home. good luck.
