Eliica: An Electric Car that Outaccelerates a Porsche 911
Old news, I suppose, seeing that the articles I found dated back to 2004, but news to me, and certainly news to EvoM (cause I searched
). Anyways, my dad video taped this special on this car on TV Japan while I was at college, and I watched it last night. Really interesting stuff.
There is one man who is really behind all this, but he did cooperative research at the Keio University in Japan. This car has an 80hp motor in each of its 8 wheels. It will do 0-100km (62mph) in 4.0 seconds. It will out accelerate a Porsche, even more so at higher speeds. The acceleration seems to be exponential with the electric motors. It has currently been tested to do 370km/h (230mph).

Here is the official website:

Here are some articles explaining the car:

the 2nd picture shown is really all it needs to run...add 3 more seats, a trunk on the body, and you have both more seats and a trunk.
i forgot how many batteries it has, but the batteries are stored all along the bottom portion of that chassis, and slides in.
Yeah, our local Auto-X club has a few races a year where they let the local high schools run their electric cars....it's amazing because they make absolutely no sound when they go through the course......all you hear is tire squeal....it's eerie. But the best thing about electric motors is that 100% of the power and torque is available instantaneously at 0 RPM's !!!!!!!
