^Exactly, a rear drive car set up properly needs slicks OR drag radials! So on street tires the original post is not true.

All I know is that in Roadracing (where all the cars are perfectly set up by professionals) the AWD cars leave the RWD cars in the dust off the line. Just check out any of the old SpeedGT races from the last few years when the Audi's were running.....they'd get about 10-15 car lengths off the line from the much more powerful Vettes and Vipers.

This is what you said:
"A properly set up rear wheel drive will outlaunch a awd car anyday!" (incorrect unless RWD has slicks or DR's)
"I still <3 my awd for street use.."(okay you like awd for street use)

No biggie, but you never said this:
"I said for street use AWD owns all!"(this was not said in original post)

Don't start mincing words now guys. The bottom line is you CAN take almost any performance oriented RWD platform and pull countless high 1.30 -1.40 times....and YES that's on slicks.

Many people pull 1.50 times on Nittos, BFGs, and MT drag radials on the street too.

It's sorda BS IMO when that Cobra or Vette blows your doors off and you're only come back is "Yeah, but he doesn't have street tires on!"

If you compare full pressure street tire vs full pressure street tire I'll concede and say AWD will win.

The main plus for me is at the higher hp levels 600rwhp+ you have no choice but to run drag radials or ET Streets and both, especially the latter, suck for any normal driving especially if you get caught in the rain....you better like where you are at because you'll be there until the rain stops.

In the end at the strip put me in a RWD car anyday. For all the people that keep bringing up the snow...WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND RACES IN THE SNOW?... UNLESS THEIR IN SOME SORT OF SANCTIONED TRACK ENVIROMENT. My car hardly sees rain let alone stinking snow, salt, etc.

you've already won when your opponent starts setting alternate conditions. CK was pretty specific about what he meant.

I like AWD and will probably push my girlfriend to trade her eclipse in for a subaru... I appreciate the safety and admit that there are many performance applications in which it is superior to other setups, but I don't like the way it feels. My experience has lead me to love the nature of RWD. It's just preference at the end.

I prefer a car which goes fast in a straight line over one which handles well, but that doesn't mean I'm looking for an automatic with a stall converter.

I said in another post that I've had as much fun in the twisties with my altima (and my accord) as in my vette or eclipse. They weren't as fast but who's timing me?
