Exclamation Just saw one of my holy grails...

... a m5, BMW M5.

Ive never seen one upclose driven on the road, only on the opposite freeway. Well on my way to work im sitting at a light, waiting for the left turn signal. Quiet morning, sitting in the car listening to KFI 640 and @ bill handel talk about this german gay canninbal, when I see a 5series pass peaceful right infront of me, but 5series are a dime a dozen out here, but I look closely and notice "gills" near the front rear wells, and no 5series has that unless it's a M. Light turn green and I made my left turn and immediatly got on it, to try to see if this was an M. As I got to the next light he was in the left lane about 4 cars up diagonal. When the light turned green my lane was going fast, as he was holding up his lane, driving like a 75y/o with a medi medi plan. As I got next to him I notice the brand new plates "BMW of Riverside" and the M5 logo... indeed it was a M5. It was silver and huge! The front was more curvaceous than I thought and was pretty hugh compare to the regular 5 series. He had no plates in the front and the look was pretty mean. I " " as I drove next to him, telling myself "this is my holy grail, pure luxary w/ enough performance to make you sweat in a cold shower". I was waiting for him to hit the "M" button so he could blast off to pluto, but I mean, it's a too lane road w/ traffic infront of us, who I am kidding. As we came to the next light, I look over at him and gave him a friendly head nod and he look over, smile, head nod gester back. He took off at the light and I just slowy follow, the low exhaust note of the engine sounded fantastic, so tame, but I wanted to hear it roar. Than, out of nowhere he gets ON IT! Before I knew it, he was bus lengths infront of me (did he hit the "M' button?)! The engine sound was sooo loud, but soooo sexy. It was almost identical to an F1 car, I mean I thought the VQ35 was sexy, but the M5 is a sexual paradise. At the next light, he hop into the left turning lane and made a turn. As im sitting waiting for the green light, I tear up... tear up some more and than cried. I wanted one, I wanted to hop out my car and pull a GTA: SA on this guy, but that would be stupid of me. So I just admire his car until I could no longer see it again :sigh:

One day, just one day... ill be in his position, .

aww please, at least u drive a 35k+ g35. i drive a 4000 dollar mr2 turbo right now man. jk jk. yea the m5's are sweet, although i like the older one much more. one other way you could have distinguished that it's an e60 m5 is by looking at the exhaust - it has the famous quad exhaust on its ***.

Here in Greenwich CT they're a dime a dozen. Take for what it's worth, but when the new Mustangs came out I was in a Starbucks on Greenwich Ave when one drove down the Avenue and everybody turned and went to look out the window. Meanwhile Ferraris and Porches don't even get noticed here!

I got to check out and sit in a new black M5 at the Bimmer dealer when I was test driving a few weeks back. It was unbelievable.....and that powerplant is a work of art.

Your in SoCal and you have never seen one? I've seen at least 3-4 on the road this month (I live in NorCal though). Also, when I took a trip to LA over the Christmas time, I saw at least 2-3 M5's.

'07 C63 AMG is going to be MORE of a monster...yep...thats 6.3L in a 4 door C class coming soon. AMG's always make more power in the end and carry an extra head on the automotive totem pole.

To be honest, I'm not a great AMG fan. It seems a plain old formula of putting the biggest engine they have on the smallest car they make. It's worth the OMG factor but in the end, they're not doing a lot to it. The M5, on the other hand has a brand new engine, and I hope the M3 also (probably not). The only real difficulty with putting a really oversized engine in a car is mainly heat and space. Big hurdles, but nothing like designing a new engine. A 'works' company should be able to do something more IMHO.
I wouldn't say no to a test drive, but as a techincal achievement, I've just seen it too many times before.
