I got my evo used but it was not the first one I looked at. I searched around to find mine. Mine was completely stock and I did give it a good test drive before buying. No problems with mine to date, and loving every minute of driving it!!!! maintenance is more but it is worth it. no problems with reliability so far, and mine is a daily driver. So if youwant an evo just look around until you find one that is worth getting

The K series engines take fairly well to mods, especially intake, exhaust, header and cams. The aftermarket is still rolling out parts for it, but with it being the new Si, things will come fairly quickly. If I were in your shoes, I'd cross shop the Mazda3 S and the Impreza 2.5i's and WRX's. The 06 Si is still a new chassis, and I'm sure there are some bugs to be worked out still, that's my only apprehension towards it. The 3s handles well, has decent power, and with the wagon, you get a LOT more space in case you ever needed to cart stuff around. Same thing with the Impreza's. I'm sure you could find a dealer willing to give you a good deal on a WRX, depending on what part of the country you live in. That takes care of your turbo performance, brand new warranty, you getting to break it in, and the fact you know where it's been. Just my .02 cents.

those are THE dumbest options ever, there is more things to consider than just 1/4 miles and horsepower...the Si is a great car...get the Si man you can make it a fun lil car...if you want an evo that badly just wait to u can get one with lower miles...cause 40k miles for 23k is crap i dont care if it is a evo or not. Hondas are great cars has a good aftermarket following, very reliable...in the end its ur choice.

Ironically, this seems to be the exact dilemma that I am having. I would be considering getting a new IX (instead of used) vs. the Civic Si. I have driven an 03 and an 05 Evo before and that makes it that much harder to decide since I have seen first hand how good it is. I know that there is a lot of price difference between the two and honestly I am debating on whether or not to justify spending an extra 10 or so grand on an Evo even though I love it more than any other car period. I have the 2000 Si currently and really liked the reliability of it and wouldn't mind the new Si either especially with the new 4 door Si coming out this fall with the exact same parts as the coupe. I always thought a 4 door Si would be so sweet-to have space and cheap performance! However, I can't seem to shake my feelings for the Evo IX w/SSL and since it is my turn to get a new car this year my wife is letting me choose between the two even though there is a good bit of difference in the cost.

Actually, the new Si (stock) runs high 14's to low 15's... that 15.8 you type is absurd. Anyways, who buy a car based on 1320? There is more to a car purchase than running a quater mile,

here's the way i'd look at it.

if you're considering the civic si, its probably due more to financial reasons. trust those instincts. the si will be cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure, cheaper to maintain, get better gas mileage, has in dash navigation, and probably is the best fwd setup in its class, hands down.

the evo, as amazing as it is, comes at a price. you're easily looking at about a $300/month difference between the two.

In dash nav is an extra $1800. I've heard people that love their in dash nav, and some people that regretted getting it since they never use it. I'd rather spend the money on a nice set of rims and tires.

then he'd save almost another 2 grand on a really sweet little car - even more of a reason to go with the si.

Wow, thanks so much for all the opinions. I think I have decided to go with the Si. I checked with my insurance company, and it is going to be a pretty hefty price jump to go with the Evo, and purecoda was right when he pointed out the cost difference (and the fact that this is, when it all comes down to it, a financial decision). Thanks so much for everyone's help (and of course any more opinions that come in), but I guess this just isn't the best time for an Evo for me.

But there's always the future...

Enjoy the car you're in. Its easy for someone with an evo to say "get an evo, its better", because they can obviously afford it.
If i had to make the same decision as you, i would go SI for sure. I checked it out completely at a local auto show last weekend. I've never really been into hondas until the 06 si. good N/A power, good tranny, LSD, sharp interrior. It really is a sporty car. If i was currently choosing between my RA and the new SI, i would have gone SI..too bad the 04 si was garbage.

anyway, you are making the right choice. Write up a review after you take delivery!

The si sucks... Either get the Evo or a VW GTI. Honda is boring now.
