Good Bveater?

I am looking for some advice on what would be a good beater car, I don't have a ton of time to search for that great deal because I am parting ways with my Ford Explorer tomorrow at noon, I am looking at $1,500 or less for a car that can last me a solid year. I was thinking mid 90's Taurus, even HIGH HIGH mileage accords, civics, go for a good $2,000-$2,500 so I don't think I can do that but what do you think from experience or common knowledge would be something to look for that won't be very hard to find, I am going to be driving it for a while to save up for my down payment on the SRT-4.

geo metro. no go at all, but awesome fuel mileage, and hella cheap insurance. Sometimes you can even get them for free. And just think, when you get your SRT, it'll seem that much better in comparison

HAH! Well there is one car I wondered about... Geo Prizm, I think some years they are made by Toyota, the same thing as a corolla with a chevy name, I saw one for $1,500 dollars and it had 170,000 k on it but if it was the same, I think it was a 1995.
