Review: 06 WRX and dealership (LONG)

Today I was coming home from school and I pass by many dealerships. So I decided today was the day to test drive some cars, see what else is is out on the market. First dealership was a Subaru one. Dealerships name is Pennisula Subaru.

I was talking to the salesman and he had very limited knowledge about the wrx. I thought they would atleast have people selling their cars actually know a fair amount about them. Well this guy didn't know much, but he admitted it. He was also very nice. He let me take of a 06 wrx for a test drive. I didn't want to take my chances by asking to drive the sti, even though I think they might have let me.

Test drove the car and the performance didn't impress me much. But it was a very nice ride. It was quieter and the ride was softer. The power was very linear and had not a great amount of pull to it. It didn't put me back into the seat. They actually let me borrow the car for like an hour because I said I had to do something which was really cool of them. But as I test drove it I was excited because it had the new car smell but very dissapointed with performance.

They wanted $28k for it, yes a normal *** wrx. They offered 17,800 for my evo, which turned out to be about 19k after taxes. So I had about 11k left to pay for a normal wrx... I didn't even care about the prices because they are in it to make money I understand but DAMN I have to spend 11k to downgrade. They offered me even better deals as I kept declining. But I really dont want a wrx, I just wanted to see how it felt. At the end the deal was 10.9%apr (for me having no credit), 18.5k for my evo, 28k for the wrx, free maintenance for the wrx for like 6 years 60k (includinig turbo and clutches- which really suprised me). And lifetime of oil changes. They were willing to offer more, but I just wanted to leave and keep my evo.

Funny things the the salespeople said:

" Just chip the wrx and add an exhaust and it'll be faster then what you have now"
" The chip is really easy to change just take it out and put in the aftermarket one, or stock if you are bringing to the dealer for services"
" The wrx is faster and handles better then the evo"
" Mitsubishi's resale isn't that good"
" wrx's have a bigger aftermarket selection (which might be true not sure)"
" A customer with a wrx is putting out about 450hp and bought all his parts from ebay for next to nothing"
There's more that I cant think of but it was entertaining. I don't blame them they are just trying to sell a car and don't know any better. They are just lacking the knowledge which I understand, but if you are trying to sell a car atleast get the facts straight.

Rating from 1-5, 5 being the best.

Salespeople: 4.5 very nice.

Salespeople knowledge: 2 didn't have too many real FACTS straight.

06 TR wrx exterior: 3 looks are growing on me and I like the fact the red tail lights are a direct fit. But the paint seems cheap, looked like there were some marks on it with only 50mi on the clock.

Interior: 2.5 nothing too special.

Handling: n/a didn't get to really test it but it was somewhat of a nice comfortable ride. Felt like a caddy compared to the evo .

Performance: 2.5 nothing special. Even with the 2.5liter engine, it felt worse then the evo before boost.

Thought I would share.

good review. $28k for a WRX? eh even if it was new downgrading to a WRX from an Evo is a huge difference. I love the dealership people you spoke to too, thats just funny how the made those facts up.. ahhaa.

Wouldnt the WRX compare to the Ralliart better

I suppose so, but I know the evo and sti would compare better. They made it sound like sti was god and the evo shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence.

" What about the sti, it's faster handles better etc... then your car stock"

If the wrx was 28k, how much were the STI's there?

Yes it was a Tuner Ready that I drove. I thought it was some special kind but I found out that its the normal one. 3 wrx models I think Tuner ready, Special edition(has leather and a sunroof), and the sti.

yeah the wrx was 28k but the sti was 38K . They said they usually sell them at those prices too.

The Evo is generally the exception when considering crappy Mitsu resale values.

There are three non-STI models for '06: TR (Tuner Ready), regular WRX, and Limited (leather, sunroof, spoiler). I have the regular WRX.

I bought my WRX TR for 23K. 28K is way too much for a TR model....

Thats pretty funny how they tried to downplay the evo and say how the wrx is better. I went to my mitsu dealer one time just to check out the new 05 evos (at the time) with my friend (who owns a wrx). The salesguy we talked to hated Subarus with a passion!! haha. He had like a russian/east european accent. We asked him what he thought of Stis and this is what he told us "Subarus are disgusting cars. The hood scoop..it shakes. Evo has much better AWD system....". All this in front of my friend, who wouldn't say a word...that was a priceless moment.
