how would evo run against a camaro ss?
okay okay so i was at a stop light and this guys pulls up to me of what seems to be a slightly modified camaro ss (newer like 97' up). Had some really nice wheels too. well anyway.......I just regularly accelerate up to about 3 gear and then I punch it thinkin imma waste him and I'm in about 4,300 rpm when i see him in the rear view mirror FLYING! his motor doesn't sound like its workin too hard but he just wizzed by me and I let up around 4,500 thinkin I wouldn't catch up with my stock evo. WOULD I smoke his a!@ if he were all stock? Just curious cus that didn't seem stock to me at all.
There's no replacement for displacement. That's Chevy's small-block V8 they've been perfecting for decades - it is to V8s what the 4G63 is to I4s. Realistically, he could have made any number of modifications too, but even stock, that cars got tons more low end torque (probably 350+), more horsepower (probably nearly 400), and a 6 speed tranny, so you know he was easily in his power band always, which being a V8 is much wider to begin with.

an ss camero isn't stock in that sence its a factory modified car .you are driving a stock evo now if it were a evo fq-300 then the out come might have been a little different ,besides once rolling thoughs ss's are fast.
SS, WS6, S2000, STi, pre-2003 cobra, C5, NSX, Supra - all proabably come down to the driver. All are 13 second cars stock. The STi & Evo will have faster launches, as will the f-bodies & cobra (generally speaking larger displacement naturally asperated engines are easier to launch quickly - generally speaking)
SS would be a fun race though...

So kindof OT, but mentioned here... Powerbands. Would it be more ideal to keep a regular Lancer as close to 5000rpm, where it generates the most hp and torque, rather than running each gear to the readline when racing?
