Saleen/Roush Mustangs
Saleen/Roush Mustangs
What do you guys think of Saleen and Roush Mustangs? Do they still handle like a normal GT/Crap? Are they reliable? I think they succeed in turning heads and not being a dime a dozen but how would you even finance/insure one, they don't even come up in the NADA/KBB database.
I'm not really sure what pricing is like I'd say around $50,000 new... used it depends on how old, maybe $20-25,000 for a 99-00? I have no idea really. I thought they S281's made 400hp or something
The new Roush Mustangs are paper tigers. Unlike other years where there were power increases per stage, the new stages are mostly appearence related, until stage 3 that finally gets into power... I'm not sure about the saleens. I will say they sure look nice though.

They're both mainly about image, IMO. While both have good packages for power and handling, the cost is ridiculous. A decent S281 SC Mustang runs upwards (if not over) $60k, and won't even get close to a C6's speed. The S281 Extreme might give a C6 a good run for its money (except at a drag strip) but will set you back $70k.
I havent driven either one but to me Saleens are two or three notches above the Roush and Steeda specialty stangs. When they get their hands on one (factory mustang) it always comes out feeling like a different car. I especially like the Saleen SRs.
The new saleens do not come with a supercharger. If they did, expect a price tag of around 55-60k minimum.
The one I saw had a saleen bodykit (yes it was kind of pretty), different suspension (supposedly) and slight changes on interior. Pretty much all bling bling stuff which surprised me. They wanted over 40k with the dealer mark up and they got a little angry when I told them in front of customers that I wouldn't pay 25k for it new. I then told them I would be embarrassed to take this to the track the way it sat. All my domestic buddies woulda had a field day with me going from an 03' svt cobra to a saleen that was nothing but bling bling.
It does look nice (different tastes) but that's like getting a widebody kit for the EVO but keeping it stock mechanically wise.

This thing was at my first track day, something like 450 HP, fully caged, etc. I thought the guy who was driving was named "Kenny", and that's what I called him. His name is Ray, and Kenny Brown is the car builder. Ooops.
