POP GOES THE STi!!!

So I move into a new town, and the only thing I can do is drive around and hope to catch attention of other nice cars or sit at the bar and strike up conversations or just kick someones ***.

Long story short, #1 happened. Meet a dude with an STi, killer cat. Really nice guy, car is his life. Chat for a few, swap emails and bounce.

I email him when Im bored out of my skull, he says he has a couple hours till his late shift at work, lets go cruise and **** on the civics and 6 cylinder rustangs. We swap rides, and honestly I had a hard time keeping up with him in my OWN car. Not having more than a catback, air filter and BOV on his car, and not having fuel management on my car pushed the odds in his favor. i was surprised.....VERY

After tearing his front bumper off (who here knew reverse wasn't LEFT and DOWN, lol?!) It was cool, it was off. After the bumper incident, he had to head to work...we bandaged the bumper and took off.

Now, we WERE not street racing. We ran it up to about 65-75 mph from the on ramp and he slowed down, called my cell and said "dude the car is smoking!!!!"

I pulled back and sure enough, I could smell oil and has all over the place....popped the hood and damn!!!

i feel terrible for him...great guy, cool car...but goes to show....my Evo has taken 10x the abuse....he is thinkin of switching now. I think...

The front bumper was beat for starters. Im gonna head over there and check it out.

Second, I dont know...all I know is that is didn't seem like any hard parts penetrated the block. If I had to take a guess I'd say it was head related. Being as the STis are a jacketed/sleeved aluminum, it could be anything. But when he turned it over, it sounded like there was NO compression on the motor....ugly. I'll post updates.

Maybe when the front end got ****ed up it damage the oil filter / oil pan / or caused some slow leak. Nothig happened at first, but after a while it ran dry and 'pop'.

Just my 'CSI: STi' evaluation.

So what happened to the front end again? You put it over a parking block/curb cause you didn't know where reverse was on the car?

Matt, I made a wrong turn and the turning radius was actually worse than the Evo. It is lowered with 19" wheels. I made the turn and it went off the road into the grass. As I tried to back up, thinkin it was like a VW, I move up onto the grass on the right hand side.

Being as the bumper was tied on with a SHOE lace, it popped off. We fixed it and drove off.

I sincerely doubt anything happened to the oil filter or anything, we had stopped 5 times before we got on the road to tackle the bumper problem, so Im not sure.

Really sucks tho.

He did a quick pull in 5th gear on his STi, I pulled up next to him and he slowed down drastically.

Knowing my car, JUST isn't that fast (yet) it was apparent something was up.

The car had a giant hole put in the motor, not sure if its a rod thrown or a piston pushing its way out the wrong way.

I can already hear the Evo fanbois using this thread as evidence of the ST's "poor" engine durability.

Wait, let me get this straight. You swapped cars with someone you just met, and RACED each other?
