Trying to help my friend out. He's got a 97 mirage 1.8 and drove home from work one day and he said he heard a "pop" sound from underneath and since then you cannot run the car past 20mph, also you hear this loud hissing sound from under the car. Anyone know or have experienced this? Does it have anything to do with the cat? Thanx!

Man I miss my Mirage, anyway I would check all hoses, intake fittings, exhaust pipes, and just go from there.

 

when i have time, i want to get under the car and check, it's just really bothering me because i personally have never run into or heard about this kind of problem yet

 

Sounds like the transmission maybe? if its a certain speed in a certain gear at a certain RPM you can't go over... sounds like tranny go pop!
