help with - tranny problem???

Ok, here is the problem. It's on a friend of mines car, which is an '01 Civic, but the guys on the Civic forum aren't too bright, well for the most part are pretty not bright

Anyway. When driving his car, especially at higher RPMs, he is having problems shifting. It doesn't matter if he uses the clutch or not. Basically he has to just push the stick to the gear he wants to shift to and wait for it to fall in. The clutch is an ACT aftermarket, and when he is at a stop he has no problem getting into any gear. The clutch starts about 1.5" off the floor. He just (after the problem started) had a shop change from stock tranny fluid to synchromesh, and has had the tranny rebuilt about thirty thousand miles ago(was completely shot). He also has a short shift adapter from DC sports. One of his side mounts is gone, we dont' know why, and he has inserts in the front and rear mount locations becuase he was tearing these up with the clutch.

He has been double clutching, but it doesn't help at all. It doesn't shift any different with or without the clutch, double clutch, rev match... nothing.

Is this clutch, tranny, maybe the mount? If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

They bought civics, and congregate with others who are just as "not bright" as they are. Does this come as much surpirse to you?

no, my buddy isn't even that bright sometimes either. I will paste the rest of this issue from the OT thread I have on it. Anyone have any ideas?

it does it going into all gears. higher RPM's he describes as anthing about 3500 or so, which is his vtec point.

referring to worn out synchros:
thats exactly what I have been saying since day one. The problem is, and we haven't had the tranny torn down or the clutch taken apart yet, that three shops have all blamed the aftermarket clutch when he brought them the car. One was a Honda dealership and two were local import tuner shops. Saying something along the lines of the clutch isn't disengaging all the way. Now we have spent time trying to prove this, doing the obvious and putting the car on a flat surface and sitting in neutral, then pushing the clutch in and swithing between gears. Nothing different. Also, like I said in the OP, the clutch doesn't engage until about 1.5" off the floor. When the problem first showed up it was more like .75" off the floor. he took it to the dealership and they said that you can't adjust that distance. Well, you can. you adjust the clutch pedal pushrod that goes into the master cylinder, which we did so it starts 1.5" off the floor. No difference in the problem though. he told two of the three shops about that adjustment and they said it wouldn't make a difference because the aftermarket clutch pressure plate is not able to move but so much, and there is no adjustment. Sounds like a load of crap to me. If it worked fine for the first thirty thousand miles(replaced it when the tranny was rebuilt) and now is having problems, how the hell is it too BIG? Wouldn't he have had that problem the whole time? Not to mention the fact that it's a damn CIVIC, which has about twenty different aftermarket clutch options from every major manufacturer. You would figure ACT would have gotten it right.

I think he needs to have the tranny rebuilt again because he drives it like an idiot. When he is pushing the car he shifts faster than lightning on his stock tranny. I laughed the first time I rode with him and he did that. That's why I told him to learn double clutching. I think he f'ed up the synchros shifting like a madman.
