STi with Mitsubishi parts?

I've heard that the STi has a Mitsubishi turbo. Does anyone know whether this is true or not? I've asked a few people and they've never heard such.

I figure it's a conflict of interest, considering the nature of these two cars being arch-rivals.

Anyone?

i believe the turbo housing is manufactured by Mitsubishi heavy industries. mitsu actually makes alot of turbos. i believe most greddy turbo chargers use mitsu parts in them as well.

Yeah, I think that's what it was. Funny though. It seems like it's a conflict of interest for Mitsubishi, but I guess money's money. It doesn't matter how they make it.

You're right on the money thing. Might as well make money off your competitors as well.

The SRT4 has a Mitsu turbo as well but, I think that is fairly common knowledge.

Yeah, but notice that Mitsubishi provided us with sh*tty turbos.

Mitsubishi said, "Here, give'em these! These things SUCK!! Get'em outta this damned warehouse and I don't care how ya do it!"

Phonecall to Subaru: "Hey guys, we hear you're redesigning your STi and you need a turbo for it! Well, we have just the turbo for ya, and you can save money too! We'll sell'em to ya; CHEAP!"

Subaru's response: "HEY! You got yourself a deal! Our customers'll never know we cut costs and gave'em a sh*tty turbo!"

Now here's the problem......We know what you did, Subaru.

The WRX turbo is a Mitsu built TD04 based unit.
The STi turbos are NOT built by Mitsubishi; they're made by IHI.

So the WRX turbos are the Mitsubishi turbos....

But wait, isn't IHI owned by Mitsubishi?

Not only the WRX uses the td04 Mitsubishi turbo but there are many vendoprs that offer the 16G, 18G and 20G turbos. I am a customer that use to run a 18G Mitsubishi turbo on my WRX back in the day.

The VF39 isn't a garbage turbo..it's just smaller. Tuned you can still hit around 20/21 psi (albeit in the upper ranges of it's efficiency).

Why don't you just get an Evo if you're not happy? You're already on this forum vs. Subie forums.
