the worse commercials ever are toyota's latest ads for the new celica.. the whole "Looks Fast" marketting.. i say "latest" ads because when the celica first came out.. the commercial for it wasnt bad.. it had a silver gts driving around in the mountains.. and jets hovering in the sky.. it was a nice commercial.. also the canada celica gts commercial was nice too.. it had the celica revving then it went to some kind of computer generated view of the engine working..
but those "looks fast" ones are pathetic.. not only do they use BASE MODEL GT celicas.. it also makes the gts 6 speeds look weak.. but its all to sell the car right? and obviously it has been working.. toyota is just using the celica's looks now to sell their car.. and even better by adding the "action package" which once was known as the TRD Body kit wen the celica first came out..
before they looks fast commercials.. they had the "performance you can use" commercials.. these were also weak.. they used BASE MODEL CELICA GT again.. hub caps and no spoiler.. pathetic.. it was comedy as they tried to make it funny .. u know wat im talking about if u saw it.. but those commercials were pathetic.. oh well.. those who knowwhatsup really know the celica gts 6 speed (2000-2001) (not 2002 cause they are slow) know that they dont just look fast..

Actually, I'll have to disagree with you wholeheartedly. The concept was great. The car looks fast, so a dog chased it even though it was standing still. A cop pulled it over even though it was parked. And the best one, the old guy yelling at it to slow down--while it was parked. Simple. Creative. And engaging. They can't sell the Celica based on performance, so selling it based on looks is a good idea.
My question to you, I guess, is what do you think makes a great commercial? Just wondering.

what i think makes a great commercial? showing the car in action.. like the wrx does.. and the first 7th gen celica commercials as i stated in my first post.. those are good commercials..
oh yea.. i see your sig.. nice camry.. howed u get it in 5 speed and close to 180 atw.. nice..
Well, I'm not going to beat a dead horse because advertising is a subjective thing. But here it goes
Showing the car in action is something everyone does. Everytime a car is on TV, it's driving down some road, or off road. The job people like me have (if it's a good agency) is to do something different. I think those ads are great for the reason you hate them. Because everyone knows the Celica has some spunk (180hp), it doesn't hurt to play off the way it looks either (It's a good looking car). For example, if it were a Hyundai Tiburon (all show, no go) I think people would have said, "anyone knows that car isn't fast." With the Celica spots, since it looks fast (and is decently), people found the spots to ring true. If you had the Celica driving down a road, it would have looked like every other spot out there. And no one would have remembered the commercials.
About the Camry. Like 5% of all Camry's came with a stick. Even fewer with the V-6. I was one of the lucky ones. I think only like 6000 of the V6 sticks were built. As for mods, I have a RMM intake, TRD exhaust, and and aftermarket y-pipe. There is a guy who just put a 7psi pulley on his S/C'd Camry (and a bunch of other stuff) who just dynoed his Camry at 260 hp, at the wheels. Nice, huh. He doesn't race much, but some M3 (not a new one) pestered him the other day. Left him in the dust (heh heh. A bimmer just got beat by a Camry).
