you can do small mod or big mods on a wrx and still blow the tranny. it just depends on how you drive it. if you mod it up and launch the **** outta it, the tranny is goin to go. if you mod it and hardly ever launch it, the tranny will last. but overall the subaru is a great car. they just have worked all of the bugs out of the 06s. if you do buy a 06 make sure your first mod is engine mounts' tranny mounts. they break on stock cars.

Its a myth...lol I drive my wrx hard for 60k miles, I'm talking 5.5k launches and all! NEVER had a problem! I had an upgraded clutch, TBE, Headers, UTEC!

The new TR's are great! you get the 2.5L and I personally love the 5 speed and would rather get a 06 wrx over a STi...My local dealer said 21,900 for a brand new one and you would be spending 32,000+ on an STi...use some of that extra money and save up for some PPG 1-4 gears and your set!

04+ Trannies are known to hold around 300-340 whp because they came with the RA gears!! The bug eyes are where most of the horror stories about the trannies came from! Even though mine was an bug eye 2002!

Thanks for the input. I never launched the Ralliart are so I won't be launching the suby.. I just want something that is going to hold up. Are you saying the suby has the same gears the Ralliart does?

I think the TR will be too much for me, I'm taking a huge hit on the RA but I'm doing it anyway

Go to the NASIOC website for more information on Subarus. As with this site however, be prepared to take advice with a grain of salt since any insights may not be objective.

Thanks, I'm not getting to much info from there regarding a 04 vs 06 TR.. I wonder if the 2.5 is worth the extra dough.

I am considering getting rid of my wife's Slocus, giving her my car, and getting a WRX TR.

Don't waste your time on NASIOC. Go to www.wrxtuners.com. Great people over there that really know their stuff.

Thanks..I haven't gotten any info from there yet.

The tranny issue is starting to scare me, esp buying a used one.

No problem.

It would be in your best interest to look into the 2006+ TRs. The transmissions did have some changes made to them, plus it basically has the same motor as the one in the STI; the 2.5L. Not to mention, you will get a brand new car that you know hasn't had the sh*t beaten out of it, and you will also get a warranty.

Figure it this way, it'll only be about $3000-$4000 more than a used model, and IMO peace of mind is worth $3000-$4000. Expect your payments to be about $60-$80 more per month on a brand new model, as $20-$25 per $1000 is normally what payments equate to. In other words, if you take a car that costs $10000, multiply 10 x $20-$25.

If possible, save a few more grand.

Thats not a bad idea, I mean, I want the WRX but I also don't want to jump into something that has somewhat of a risk from the previous owner. That is if I can get the TR for a reasonable price.

Actually..even at 22k it would still end up costing way too damn much, i'll just stick to the 04. More power can be made if I want to, as far as the tranny issue is conserned, hopefully it holds up otherwise the switch was supid.

Don't worry about the trans, I personally thinnk the 2.5L is worth the extra money! especially if you are planning on going bigger turbo other than the small IHI ones!

You WILL thank yourself for buying the new car, and so will your wallet in the future.

Right now its either the 04 or nothing else. The add-on negative trade value makes it some much more expensive.
